How Fast? How Far?

Free fall means that an object is falling freely with no forces acting upon it except gravity, a
defined constant, g = -9.8 m/s2. The displacement the object falls, or height, h, is 1/2 gravity x the
square of the time falling. Velocity is defined as gravity x time.

Objective:
1. Give different examples of free falling objects.
2. Calculate the unknown value of a free falling object.
3. Determine the unknown values by using measuring materials.

Materials:
 tape measure
 ping pong ball
 timer
 calculator
 pen
 paper
 Answer sheet

Procedure:
1. In front of your classroom measure the height of the balcony down to the ground using the tape
measure.
2. Using the timer measure the time of the ball as you drop it to the ground.
3. Record all your gathered data
4. Proceed to answering the questions provided.
