The underground firewater piping can be CS (A106-B/A53-B), DI, cement lined steel, or HDPE, with proper

installation procedures. I used them in the Refinery before.

We just finished a fire water system using ASTM A106 Gr. B piping per the clients request. We coated and
wrapped the underground portion and recommended galvanizing the piping to protect against corrosion,
however the client said no to the galvanizing. I would recommend reading NFPA section 10 for buried piping to
get a list of approved materials covered by AWWA. Hope this helps.
