16 fun measurement challenges

 Here are 16 fun measurement cards to use with your students. Each card requires students to
make an estimate before measuring. Students will need a ruler to complete these cards. A
yardstick and tape measure would also be helpful. Students can work in standard and/or metric
measurements. A student answer sheet is included.

In addition, there are three "Now try this:" cards. Card 1 asks students to use two different units
of measurement for the same object and explain the results (you may need to guide students
toward larger objects). Card 2 asks students to compare measurements of two objects and find
the difference. Card 3 is a graphing activity for advanced learners who will enjoy an the extra
challenge.
These cards will look best in color, but will also print out fine in grayscale. Simply print and cut
along the guidelines. Laminate and use them again and again. Alternatively, you could print on
cardstock. It works well to keep them in a baggie. Another option is to hole-punch a corner of
each card and put them all on a ring.

This product addresses the following Common Core Standards:

CCSS.Math.Content.2.MD.A.1 Measure the length of an object by selecting and using appropriate tools such as rulers, yardsticks,
tapes.. (task cards)
meter sticks, and measuring tapes

CCSS.Math.Content.2.MD.A.2 Measure the length of an object twice, using length units of different lengths for the two
measurements; describe how the two measurements relate to the size of the unit chosen. (Now try this Card 1)

CCSS.Math.Content.2.MD.A.3 Estimate lengths using units of inches, feet, centimeters, and meters. (task cards)

CCSS.Math.Content.2.MD.A.4 Measure to determine how much longer one object is than another, expressing the length
difference in terms of a standard length unit. (Now try this Cards 2)
