DESIGN PROJECT – Shopping complex cum committee office

INTENT

The VIIIth Semester is assigned with the discoveries of design values purely concerned with the complex
service intensive buildings and structural systems. The purpose of studio during this semester is to
interpret their previous learning’s with some new strategic skills and ideas including services in a
building. With this project students will enter in the field of public designing where they need to explore
themselves not just for the individual client requirement but also for the uncountable number of users
sharing the same built-environment.
Client wishes avail the land by establishing a high quality MIXED LAND USE SHOPPING CUM
COMMITTEE OFFICE so that the site can generate the revenue by providing the integrated complex &
regulate the estate.

THE DESIGN STUDIO AIMS TO:

• Promote Logical Design approach

• Encourage responsible, modern and acceptable design ideas

• Keen understanding of design aspects with bye-laws and regulations

• Dealing with services & their management in a building

• Enhance key skills: observations, analysis and competences

DESIGN METHODOLOGY:

The conceptual design process may be formal or informal; it can be characterized by a series of actions:
formulation, analysis, search, decision, specification, and modification. Many iterations of redesign are
expected to refine the functional requirements, design concepts and financial constraints, even though the
analytic tools applied to the solution of the problem at this stage may be very crude.

As the project moves from conceptual planning to detailed design, the design process becomes more
formal. In general, the actions of formulation, analysis, search, decision, specification and modification
still hold, but they represent specific steps with less random interactions in detailed design. The design
methodology thus formalized can be applied to a variety of design problems.
FACTORS THAT NEEDED TO KEEP IN MIND WHILE DESIGNING ARE:

• Macro and micro climate

• User behavior and requirements
• Utility and space enhancement
• Form and function
• Circulation: horizontal and vertical.
• Site Planning and Landscape detailing
• Structural details such as beam framing, building services / HVAC etc.
• Use of innovations in materials and techniques of construction.
• Energy efficient design, water conservation and waste recycling
• Energy Management systems
• Lighting and acoustics
• Communications and security systems
• Design detailing considering the barrier free environment
• Socio-economic profile of user group
• Parking details and standards
• Application of energy rating systems viz. LEED, GRIHA
