INTRODUCTION

A. Background

The United States is a federal republic consisting of 50 states dansebuah

federal district. Except Alaska (northern Canada) and
Hawaii (Pacific Ocean), 48 other states and federal district located in North
America. United States berbatasandengan Mexico and the Gulf of Mexico to the
south, and with Canada in the north and northwest (Alaska exclave). In the west
of the country borders the Pacific Ocean harps east by the Atlantic Ocean. In

DISCUSSION

A. History of United States

United States (English: United States of America - USA or the

United States - U.S.) is a federal republic consisting of 50 states and a
federal district. Except Alaska (northern Canada) and Hawaii (Pacific
Ocean), 48 other states throughout the United States is made up of 13
former British colonies after the American Revolution after the
declaration of independence on July 4, 1776. In its origin, its political
structure is a confederation. But after long debate and the formation of
the American Constitution, the colony finally agreed to form a unified
state.
In the 19th century US power extends throughout the North
American continent. Through coercion, military force and diplomacy,
the US gained a lot of other states within and outside the country such
as Cuba and the Philippines. Even so, the country is experiencing poor
social problems. In an effort to expand the power of the white man,
the Native Americans have been victimized. Through military force,
destruction, exclusion and the construction of the reservation area, the
native Indians had been removed. In the south, there is still no system
of slavery blacks as second class citizens. Discrimination against the
color is one of the causes of the civil war between the states of North
and South. Although the system of slavery had been abolished after
the defeat of the countries of the South, racism continues rampant that
to the mid 20th century.
During that era, the country continues to advance into an industrial
ruler of the world, the quest so that all of the 20th century, known as
the American Century glories or the American Century. In this
century the expanding American influence in the international arena
and become a center of innovation and technology in the world at that
time. Some donation technology, including phones, televisions,
computers, Internet, nuclear weapons, airplanes and space travel.

 The country has suffered some bitter experiences such as the
American Civil War (1861-1865) and the collapse of a bad economy
as "the Great Depression" (1929-1939) who not only hit the United
States in fact almost all over the world. Recent experience of the
saddest is the 9/11 attacks on 11 September 2001 at the World Trade
Center, New York, where nearly three thousand people were killed in
a terrorist attack.
In terms of history, this country has been involved in several major
world wars, from the War of 1812 against Britain, and berpakta also
with the British during World War I and World War II. In the 1960s
Americans engaged in the Cold War against the other major powers,
namely the Soviet and communist influence. In an effort to stem the
spread of communism in Asia, the United States in the Korean War,
Vietnam and the last in Afghanistan. After the downfall and
disintegration of the Soviet, US rose to become an economic and
military power of the strongest in the world. During the 1990s, the US
established him as the world police and army action in Kosovo, Haiti,
Somalia and Liberia, and the First Gulf War against Iraq that invaded
Kuwait. After the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001 at the World
Trade Center and the Pentagon, the US launched a counterattack
against Afghanistan and topple the Taliban in the country there, and in
2003 the Second Gulf War against Iraq to remove Saddam Hussein's
regime.

Constitution (Constitution) in 1787. However, the constitution has
undergone several amendments. US Government systems which have
been running up until now endeavored keep in Democratic

government system, government system adopted is a democracy with
a presidential system.
The head of state and head of government is the president.
President and vice president elected in a single package (ticket) by the
people directly for a term of 4 years. Thus the president is not
accountable to Congress. Congress (legislative body) is composed of
two parts, namely the senate and house of representatives. Senate
members have elections in the state is concerned, each state is
represented by two people whose term of office is six years. 2/3 tatapi
members will be renewed every two years. Representative body is
representative of the American people who are directly elected for a
term of 2 years.
State level there is also a general election, to mmilih governor
and vice governor, and there are elections for the Mayor or the City
Council and other public positions. Besides, there is a parliament
consisting of two bodies namely, the Senate representing the lower
region, county-level and representative bodies as state representatives.

United States is a country located in the continent of North

and is the fourth largest country in the world. United States consists of
50 states (federal states), 48 of which lies between Canada and
Mexico, while the two other states located far apart from all 48 states.

0.3% Muslim, Buddhist, Agnostic, Atheist, Hindu and Unitarian
Universalists. There is a big difference between those who embrace a
religion and those who are members of religious places of worship it.

place of worship in 2004 was 33% Protestant, 19% Roman Catholic,
4% Jewish and 44% other religions.

The United States has a high cultural quality. United States

tools and experts.
• Agriculture in the United States have special properties that
monoculture, the only plant one kind of crop, but organized in a
modern way.

Wheat growing regions are in the northern and central Plains

Mississippi. Flour mill located in Chicago, St. Paul New York, and
Minneapolis. The corn crop is grown in the south to the Ohio River.
Corn growing area called Corn Belt. Wheat planting area called Wheat
Belt and is situated in the southeast and around the Gulf of Mexico.

2) Ranch

Livestock United States is very advanced. Livestock handled and

processed very intensive. Animals kept is poultry and cattle. Points

Industry United States advanced by leaps and bounds because of the

industry is the largest industry in the world.
• Industry shipyard located in New York, Boston, and San Francisco.
• The aircraft industry are in Los Angeles and Seattle.

As a developed country that is dominant in the world arena, the

United States has a lot of famous cities. Some of the famous city,
among others, the following.

1. Washington, D.C., was the nerve center of the US government at
the same location of the presidential palace.
2. New York, is the largest city as a center of world trade, in this city
stands the world trade center building (World Trade Center Building /
WTC) and the center of world stock markets (The New York Stock
Exchange / NYSE). In this city there is also the headquarters of the
United Nations.
3. Los Angeles, the second largest city and serves as the center of the
city assembly industry, communications, finance, and fashion. The air
port traffic is the most populous in the United States. The city is also a
center for the aircraft industry and military equipment.
4. Chicago, the third largest city. The city is known as a center for
cutting farm animals, pets and steel foundries, manufacturers of
medical equipment, railway equipment, soaps, paints, cosmetics,
machinery - industrial machinery, and sports equipment.
