LESSON ORGANISATION
8. After this is explained the educator will explain the activities taking
place throughout the duration of the day. Using a demonstration
example.
9. Two students are selected for the table top letter craft activity and the
rest of the students are free to play in the other learning centres
around the classroom until their name has been called.
During the mat session, if the students become off topic or distracted, the
educator is to implement the behaviour management strategy of “are your
eyes watching (pointing to eyes), are your ears listening (pointing to ears), are
you voices quiet and are your bodies still.

Lesson Development:
Table Top Activity
o The students are asked in groups of 2 whilst the other students are
free playing in the available play centres around the classroom.
Once the students have completed their work, it will then be placed PVA Glue
on the drying rack to dry.
Scissors
4. The students are then required to grab a pair of scissors from the tub

and cut around the outside of their elephant template.
Writing
5. The students are then instructed to write their name on the back of Textas
their artwork.
Crayons
6. Giving, the students some time to play in the other learning centres,
at a later date they will transition back to the activity table to make a Coloured Pencils
background of their choice for their elephant on A4 paper using the
available writing materials. Blank A4 Paper
Demonstration Example
10:30am 7. Their work will be displayed around the classroom or placed in their of the Activity
take home folders.
As recess takes place at 10:30pm if some students have not completed the
activity they will do so after recess or in the next session on another day.
It is important for the educator to praise the students as they are completing
their work to increase their self confidence.
Lesson Closure:
At the closure of the table top activity, invite the students to share their
developmental thoughts on the process of creating their Elephant through
scaffolding questioning.
What letter does your Elephant start with? What sound does that letter make?
The closure of the lesson is completed when the students have completed
their Elephant activity as the classroom is very play based.
Assessment:
The students are observed during their play activity and this is recorded in the
form of anecdotal notes.
The anecdotal notes are recorded in terms of their enjoyment, what they take
from the activity through their discussions and whether or not the students are
able to create their elephant correctly as well as verbally explain it (in terms of
what letter it starts with).
Work Samples will also be taken.
