PRESS RELEASE

Yokozuna Data Joins AWS Partner Network

Amazon Game Tech customers will be able to use Yokozuna Dataʼs state-of-the-art machine
learning technology for predicting individual player behavior

Dr. África Periáñez, CEO of Yokozuna Data, will speak about “Custom-Made Games with
Machine Learning and Big Data” at Amazon Developer Days at GDC 2019

Tokyo, March 2019

Yokozuna Data, a Keywords Studio — the award-winning data science company that has developed
a machine learning engine to predict the behavior of individual video game players — has joined the
Amazon Web Services (AWS) Partner Network (APN) and will integrate Yokozuna Data’s prediction
platform and recommendation system into Amazon Game Tech solutions.

Thanks to Yokozuna Data’s technology, together with the cloud computing capabilities of AWS,
developers and studios will be able to know more about their gamers (such as when they are
expected to leave the game or which in-game item they are likely to purchase next) and to get
recommendations about sequences of events that would maximize player engagement and
retention. This should help them make the best development and commercial decisions based on
behavioral predictions and simulations.

With this collaboration, Yokozuna Data continues consolidating its position as a key partner in the
gaming industry and takes another leap forward in its effort to democratize game data science.

Amazon Game Tech brings together solutions from across Amazon, for every stage in a game's
lifecycle. Whether a developer is building a connected game, deploying dedicated servers, or looking
to reach more players. The APN is the global partner program for AWS. It is focused on helping APN
Partners build successful AWS-based businesses or solutions by providing business, technical,
marketing, and go-to-market support

Custom-Made Games with Machine Learning and Big Data

We are also pleased to announce that Dr. África Periáñez, CEO of Yokozuna Data, has been invited
to speak about “Custom-Made Games with Machine Learning and Big Data” at the Game
Developers Conference (GDC), the world's largest professional game industry event, to be held
March 18–22, 2019, in San Francisco. This talk is part of the Amazon Developers Day sessions,
presented by Amazon Game Tech, and is scheduled for Tuesday, March 19, at 2:40 pm at West Hall,
room 3001.
In her talk, Dr. Periáñez will discuss how behavioral data science and machine learning can help
game developers to maximize player engagement by creating optimal and personalized game
experiences. In an industry where 75–90% of new players are estimated to quit the game on their first
day, the ability to predict player behavior has become a key factor to the success of any title. And
thanks to sophisticated artificial intelligence methods, developers can now foresee when players will
churn or how much they will spend before quitting, also getting recommendations on specific
actions—such as customized events, promotions or rewards—addressed to increase user retention.
The emergence of this technology also allows studios to improve their games following a
player-focused data-driven development, thereby making them more appealing and ultimately
leading to increased monetization.

Dr. África Periáñez, CEO of Yokozuna Data, is a senior data scientist and researcher with more than
14 years of professional experience. She holds a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Reading
(UK), a Master of Advanced Studies in String Theory Physics carried out at CERN (Switzerland) and an
MSc in Theoretical Physics from the Autonomous University of Madrid (Spain).

Yokozuna Data will also be present at the GDC Expo area, booth P1815, showcasing its services and
demonstrating the latest features of its products.
