EMS Generator Run

Troubleshooting
Not getting a Run signal
12/9/2011 Step by step guide
Step-1 : IN EMS PROGRAM

Confirm EMS Module for “Run Input” is communicating (IOM, 8IM, MINIO).
a) MINIO: Will need to check Module Directory if no loads to see if communicating.
b) 8IM: Will need to check Module Directory to see if communicating.
c) See examples above.
Step-2 : INSIDE EMS PANEL

a) Remove wires from Gen Run Input terminals.

b) Measure for DC voltage across Gen Run Input terminals.
c) Typically on terminals # 124,125 (for a contactor store).
• If voltage: Place a jumper across Input terminals. EMS should see a “Close”.
• If no voltage: possibly a bad Input.
d) Reconnect wires at terminals #124, 125.

Step-3: AT THE GENERATOR

a) Locate EMS Gen Run wires on ice cube relay inside Generator.
b) Wires must be connected to relay’s C & N/O spades.
Touch the EMS wires together.
(Common & N/O spades)

Step-4: AT THE GENERATOR

EMS wires on Gen run relay should have 24 vdc across the pair.
Touch the EMS wires together.
a) If 24vdc across wires: EMS should see a “Close”.
b) If no 24vdc present: possibly a break in wires or the wrong wires.

Step-5: AT THE GENERATOR

If EMS gets a “Close” when wires are touched together.

a) Confirm Gen Run ice cube relay is good. Check coil & contacts.
b) Confirm EMS wires are landed on relay’s C & N/O spades.
c) Confirm relay’s coil is getting 12vdc or 24vdc when Gen is running.
