Course Description

ln this course, students will gain an understanding of the role


distinction between teachers and
educational assistants. Topics include the philosophy and structure
of education, child abuse policies,
classification of tasks, responsibilities, courtesies, and confidentiality.
Students willdevelop practical
skills in record keeping and the use of audiovisual materials and
resources.

Prerequisites: None.

Corequisites: None.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able


to:

1' Identify and analyze instructional and non-instructional roles


of the Educational Assistant,
supporting the requirements and regulations of the Ministry of Education
and the Ontario
Teachers' Federation.
2' Communicate clearly and appropriately with students, and professional
colleagues, providing
and accepting constructive feedback and adhering to norms of
confidentiality.
3' Appreciate the lines of communication that exist in various
educational settings and be able to
participate in a complementary rote in the classroom.
4 Examine issues, challenges and trends currently facing educational
institutions and personnel in
Ontario.
