Conclusion Reflection
My topic was to tutor kids and help them grow in their math abilities. I have always loved
working with kids and have been told by many adults how great I am with them. I chose this as
my topic for my capstone because I want to be a math teacher after college and continue to
help kids with one of the most important subjects they’ll learn in their life. I saw how most of my
peers hated mathematics and I was hoping to possibly change that for the five kids I tutored. I
wanted to solve this by helping them better understand the simple concepts at a younger age so
that when they get added onto newer concepts, they wouldn’t be trying to catch up and fall
behind so far that they fail the whole test. I hoped to learn better and more efficient ways of
teaching kids so that I can use those techniques for my future students, or even myself for
studying tips. I planned to ask multiple groups of kids that I knew through various ___ of my life
and offer my help to them. I didn't really encounter any obstacles but maybe something I
could’ve been better about would be writing out notes for them and practice problems for them
to keep. I ended up tutoring six girls total; three were from gage, one from poly, and two of my
neighbors. They brought what they were working on and I went through any questions they had
and then I gave them tricks or shortcuts they could use to make their most hated subject a little
easier. I feel like I accomplished something that I’ve been wanting to do for a while now but had
just been too scared to do. I learned that teaching is a passion of mine and it made me even
more excited for my future teaching career. I am proud of how well I explained the topics to the
students and how well they picked up the concepts. Something I wish I could’ve done differently
would be bringing cute little snacks and treats for when they get stuff right. I feel like I was able
to make a difference with kids that I tutored, almost all of them were willing to learn and wanted
to be better at math. If I had the time, I would make a website for my tutoring services with
things like availability hours, past experience, and pricing so that my business could grow and I
could reach out to new students that I could help. If I could give any advice to seniors starting
the capstone, it would be to choose something that has to do with your future. It will make you
do research on it and think of things that you didn't know that would be required of you for that
career path.
