The value of utilized production for the United States is forecast down 27 percent for 2018. Alabama’s 2018 value is down 33
percent from last year. Georgia has historically led the Nation in pecan production. However, in October 2018, Hurricane Michael
landed in Florida quickly moving into Georgia with wind speeds in excess of 70 mph causing widespread damage across much of
the state. Many pecan trees were toppled and nuts were prematurely knocked from limbs causing significant crop losses which
resulted in a 64 percent decrease in value of production for 2018.
