you some time?

Lesson D, Activity 3A My blog: How to improve . . .

Which English-speaking country do you recommend? Is Canada a good place to learn English?

I try to speak with a classmate every day for 10 minutes in English. We sometimes study
together and practice the conversations in the book together.

Who is your favorite rap artist? I’m not a big fan of rap, but I like some of Eminem’s early music.

Lesson D, Activity 6A My blog: Hobbies

I edit my own family videos on my computer, too. I watched videos on the Internet and learned
to edit my videos that way. There are a lot of videos you can watch. I also bought some very
simple software. Perhaps you need to read some reviews of editing software online and find an
easy program.

It depends. How old are the customers in the cafe? What kinds of songs do they enjoy, do you
think? Look at your audience and watch their reactions. I think pop music is always good to
play, but the main question for you is: What do you enjoy singing?

medicine for your allergies? I have them too and I can’t find a good remedy for them.

Some people can't take breaks at work if their boss is really strict (like my boss). I often take a
walk at lunchtime and then eat lunch at my desk.

Meditation is a good idea. Can you recommend some classes or books?

I'd love to exercise with friends, but my friends all hate exercising.

play basketball. We were late for class, too.

You had a very interesting childhood. Do you still keep in touch with your friend Ling?

Lesson B, Activity 6A My blog: My school days

I wasn’t good at history, either. I think because I didn't like the teacher. I think a good teacher
makes a subject interesting. Do you agree? Were all your teachers nice?

Why do you want to take a computer studies class again? Do you need it for your career?

Lesson D, Activity 4A My blog: What was your life like?

When I was a teenager, I got along with my parents most of the time, too. We didn't agree about
many things, but we were always able to discuss them. Do you share your parents' taste in
music now?

That's interesting. My parents didn't like my first boyfriend, either. But they were probably right.
He wasn't very polite to them.

Unit 7: Going away

Lesson A, Activity 9A My blog: Things you need to know when you visit my
country
Some people are also learning Russian, too. We have a lot of Russian visitors.

The hotels in the suburbs are also very cheap, and it's easy to use the subway to go downtown.

Lesson B, Activity 8A My blog: Things to bring when you visit my country

You should also bring a bathing suit if you want to go swimming. There are some nice
swimming pools in most of the big hotels.

I agree. It's nice to say "thank you" to people. Tourists shouldn't assume that everybody speaks
English.

Lesson D, Activity 4A Writing: An email about a trip

What's it like to stay in a cave? Can you get Internet access there? I saw a documentary about
Cappadocia. It looks amazing.

Do you need binoculars if it's raining so much? Can you see anything? :) I heard Scotland is
beautiful when the sun shines. I hope you get some good weather soon.

Unit 8: At home
Lesson A, Activity 8A My blog: Old things I can't throw away
How many books do you have? Are you really going to read them again? I only read books
once and then I give them to a charity.

That's amazing. I can’t throw away clothes. Sometimes I wear something three years after I
bought it. It's good to keep special gifts from your grandparents. I keep all mine because it
reminds me of them.

Lesson B, Activity 8A My blog: My favorite room

The kitchen is not my favorite room because I hate cooking. But I'm sure it's nice to spend time
with friends and family when you're cooking if it's something you enjoy.

Do you read in the bath? Do you ever drop your book in the water?

Lesson D, Activity 4A My blog: My evening routine

Your evening sounds good. It's nice to talk during dinner. We all eat dinner at different times
during the week, and we only eat together on weekends.

You sound very busy and you go to bed very late. I usually go to bed soon after I eat dinner -
about 9:30. Do you have to get up early in the mornings?

Lesson A, Activity 10A My blog: What went wrong for me this week
Oh no! It's not good to do your homework again. It's nice to get a good grade, though. Did you
get an A?

That’s terrible! I did that last year in a department store. It was so embarrassing!

Lesson B, Activity 7A My blog: I wasn't paying attention!

Did you get into trouble at work? Did anyone notice that you came in late?

I'm terrible at remembering people's birthdays. I usually put them in the calendar on my phone
to remind me.

Lesson D, Activity 4A My blog: My anecdote

That's funny. It's great that your mom called at that moment.

Congratulations on getting the job. That's a nice anecdote. Are you sure now that the job is right
for you?

Unit 10: Communication

Lesson A, Activity 7A My blog: How I keep in touch with friends and family
I agree with you. Social networking is better than calling or texting these days. I keep in touch
with everybody that way. Do you have separate accounts for friends and family?

It's funny - everybody is writing texts and messages these days. Can you write messages and
walk down the street at the same time?

Lesson B, Activity 6A My blog: My communication style

I hate using a webcam too, because when I'm home, I'm always in my pajamas. I love talking to
people but with the webcam turned off.

How do you spend two hours on the phone? I don't like long phone calls. They give me a
headache.

Lesson D, Activity 4A My blog: The pros and cons of . . .

That's true. You should change your passwords all the time to keep your account safe from
hackers.

kind of addictive. I even check them at night if I wake up.

Lesson B, Activity 6A My blog: My best friend

My best friend has a ponytail too, but he's a guy. He's a designer and he looks very creative.

It's good that you're friends with your roommate. Do you take the same classes too?

Lesson D, Activity 4A My blog: Fashion trends

I agree, but do you like the baggy jeans? I hate them. I feel they're too big on me. I've got one
pair, but I prefer to wear my skinny jeans.

I don't carry a leather purse. I just have a backpack. Maybe working people carry them to work,
but my friends and I are all students. We don't carry purses.

Lesson A, Activity 7A My blog: My plans for the next ten years
What kind of office do you think you'll work in? Why do you want to live in New York? Do you
have family there?

France is a great place to live. My brother lives in Toulouse and he loves it there. What city do
you want to live in? I think Italy is a good place to go too - it has great food.

Lesson B, Activity 6A My blog: The top things I want to do in life

That sounds interesting. Which country do you think you'll go to?

I think I'll go back to school when I'm in my 60s. What do you think you'll study?

Lesson D, Activity 4A My blog: A future invention

That's an interesting idea. I think I'd like a robot for household chores, but I don't think I want a
robot friend or teacher. That sounds scary. I prefer people!

I totally want a self-driving car one day! I wonder if people will need a driver’s license for a self-
driving car. What do you think?
