1 Introduction
This application note describes how to connect the CT Analyzer to a bushing CT inside a ( )
transformer and points out the influences of the respective connection method to the measurement
results.

To determine the typical ratio error for each connection method, various measurements have been
performed on a ( ) transformer containing a measurement CT in a bushing.

2 Recommended Connection Methods

2.1 For CTs in Windings; Ratio Error 0.062 %

Here, only one transformer winding is connected in series to the CT. This connection method
provides least possible influence to the measurement result for Rct. The delta winding and the
remaining windings of the transformer's star winding are short-circuited to avoid influence of the core
flux to the measurement.

2.2 For CTs in the Feeding Line of a Winding; Ratio Error 0.037 %
Here, only two parallel transformer windings are connected in series to the CT. This connection
method provides least possible influence to the measurement result for Rct. The star winding and the
remaining windings of the transformer's delta winding are short-circuited to avoid influence of the
core flux to the measurement.

2.3 For CTs in a Winding; Ratio Error 0.077 %
For this measurement, it is essential to select a delta compensation of Ratio 2/3 in the CT-Object
card of the CT Analyzer.

One transformer winding is connected in series to the CT. This connection method provides least
possible influence to the measurement result for Rct. The star winding and the remaining windings of
the transformer's delta winding are short-circuited to avoid influence of the core flux to the
measurement.
