Activities

Activity 1-warmer-up T – Ss 5’
Aims: to involve students to express their thoughts about the weather/topic of the lesson
to motivate students for the revision;
Ss greet T; she introduces herself and asks them about the homework.
T asks some introductory questions like: How are you today? Are you ready for
the lesson? Do you like the topic of our lesson?
T asks the Ss to review quickly: asks the Ss what a noun is and asks for some
examples.

Activity 2: T – Ss 10’
Aim: to prepare the context for the review of the regular nouns and their plural;
T asks some Ss to read their homework; T repeats the definition of the noun with
the help of the Ss.
T asks the Ss to turn to their partner and give 5 examples of nouns. Their partner
has to respond with the plural of each noun.
Example: book-books, table-tables, window-windows, lake-lakes, etc
Activity 3: T – Ss 10’
Aim: to explain the exceptions of the rule: plural endings of the irregular nouns;
T writes some examples of irregular nouns on the board and asks students to
mention the exception of the rule. After giving several examples for each exception, T
asks the Ss to come with their own example.
T gives the Ss a worksheet with singular nouns that have a blank space after them
in order for the Ss to complete with the correct form of the plural (the exceptions are
written on the board).
Example: leaf-leaves, city-cities, bus-busses, child-children, person-people, etc

Activity 4: Ss– Ss 10’

Aim: to learn new nouns and how to pronounce them (both in singular and plural);
T has some cards in a box that contains singular nouns. T asks Ss to raise their
hands if they want to get a card and read out loud the noun (and give the plural). T calls
some names and asks the Ss to read their card. If they don’t know the noun, T translates it
on the board and asks the Ss to also use it in a sentence in order to make sure they
understand it.
Example: village, policeman, eggshell, paper clip etc
Activity 5: T – Ss 10’
Aim: to write after dictation a text that contains multiple examples of nouns (regular and
irregular) and to practice the plural forms;
T asks the Ss to write in their notebooks what she is going to dictate. The text is
actually a short poem. The Ss can ask the T to repeat a sentence or a certain word; The T
asks Ss to classify the nouns according to the different group they belong to (based on the
exception table they have on their notebook).
T checks for spelling mistakes and if the plural form is written correctly.

Homework: T hands each one an envelope to write a short letter for a friend that moved
in England with its family. They have to describe their plans for this Christmas holiday
(what they want to do differently this year).
