Color Separation
Photographers are being asked more and
more to deliver their images in the form of
RGB or CMYK data files – as ready-to-
print pictures. The Sinar CeMagYK soft-
ware provides several tools for the con-
version of images taken in the RGB

Contrast Optimization

With the Sinar CeMagYK, one is able to view expressive RGB previews that are dis-
played with millions of colors in 3 × 8 bit, not with only 256 colors in 8 bit.
Thanks to the DCS data formats that are generated by the Sinar CeMagYK, last-
minute color adaptations can be made quickly, without the need for opening an image
manipulation program.
Adaptive
Unsharp Masking
In order to print a picture with optimal
sharpness, unsharp masking is first un-
dertaken, with emphasis on the contours
of the objects shown in the picture. The
adaptive unsharp masking of the Sinar
CeMagYK tailors itself to the scaled size
of the picture and any unsharp masking
undertaken before the scaling is pre-
served in the enlargement. The unsharp
masking produced by the Sinar
CeMagYK also distinguishes itself by its
very exact computation that is tailored to
the printing process.
Batch Processing
The optimal solution for avoiding the need
for manipulating every single image in a
large series of pictures with the same
printing parameters is batch processing
with the Sinar CaptureShop™. All the
functions of the Sinar CeMagYK, includ-
ing color separation, scaling, contrast
optimizing, changing the curve, etc. can
thus be applied simultaneously to several
pictures with a single command. Using
the batch function of the Sinar CeMagYK,
the operator saves precious time while
still achieving professional results.
Professional File Formats
The Sinar CeMagYK supports all the for-
mats that are used in the professional
prepress phase, including EPS, DCS and
DCS2. And there is more: With the Sinar
CeMagYK it is possible to take full
advantage of the capabilities of these
formats. For instance: With the high-reso-
lution preview function, which enables the
operator to position pictures in the layout
accurately, the visual effect of a combina-
tion of pictures on a page can be judged
properly.
Advantages of the
DCS/DCS2
The DCS file formats (Desktop Color
Separation) offer numerous advantages,
especially when compared to the univer-
sal TIFF file format that are specific to the
professional prepress phase. For exam-
ple, instructions for the screening of pic-
tures can be incorporated directly in the
output files. Another advantage of DCS
and DCS2 is the fact that these file for-
mats contain a so-called composite that
is used for low-resolution layout proofs.
This yields a significant reduction of the
computing time required for printing such
proofs, and it also markedly reduces data
traffic in the network. Furthermore, the
DCS format makes it possible to use the
layout program to perform tonal value
adaptations in seconds when the situa-
tion demands it. In doing so, these tonal
value adaptations do not alter the pixel
values of the image data directly. Instead,
they control the tonal value reproduction
by means of Postscript commands. This
makes it possible to reverse them quick-
ly, if that becomes necessary.
