ing this trend, Sinar is introducing the
Sinar CeMagYK Software, a professional
prepress tool. By means of the CeMagYK
plug-in, data can now be prepared opti-
mally with a flick of the wrist, directly from
the Sinar CaptureShop™ software for
professional Sinar digital backs. The core
of the Sinar CeMagYK software is the
proven IPM (Image Processing Machine)
from Binuscan, which produces brilliant
conversions of Sinarback data by means
of adaptive unsharp masking, sophisti-
cated conversion tables and a unique
contrast-optimizing technique.

Color Separation
Photographers are being asked more and
more to deliver their images in the form of
RGB or CMYK data files – as ready-to-
print pictures. The Sinar CeMagYK soft-
ware provides several tools for the con-
version of images taken in the RGB
mode. Color separation of RGB in CMYK RGB CMYK
is performed by means of the CeMagYK
software, which is tailored optimally to the Professional color separations can be made from RGB in CMYK with the Sinar CeMagYK,

life-like results, especially in the realm of
skintones and saturated colors. The
award-winning color rendition of the Sinar
ColorCatcher Engine also remains at op-
timal conversion in the end result, safe-
guarded by the Sinar CeMagYK software.
The RGB/CMYK Look-up Tables of the
CeMagYK software are based on the
decades-long experience of the Binuscan
company and of the Binucci Printing
House in Monaco, and they were espe-
cially optimized for strong, saturated col-
or tones in RGB. These advantages be-
come particularly evident in photographs
of plastic parts and in product shots.

Contrast Optimization
In printing, a contrast range of only 4.6
aperture stops can be reproduced. In ad-
dition, care has to be taken to prevent
highlights from "washing out" in the dot
patterns, and to prevent the dots in dark
areas from blending together. A loss in
detail resolution in strongly saturated col-
or areas can occur with inadequate color
separation. Such deficiencies can be pre- With the Sinar CeMagYK, image histograms are analyzed and optimized for the

The optimal solution for avoiding the need
for manipulating every single image in a
large series of pictures with the same
printing parameters is batch processing
with the Sinar CaptureShop™. All the
functions of the Sinar CeMagYK, includ-
ing color separation, scaling, contrast
optimizing, changing the curve, etc. can
thus be applied simultaneously to several
pictures with a single command. Using
the batch function of the Sinar CeMagYK,
the operator saves precious time while
still achieving professional results.

Professional File Formats

The Sinar CeMagYK supports all the for-
mats that are used in the professional
prepress phase, including EPS, DCS and
DCS2. And there is more: With the Sinar
CeMagYK it is possible to take full
advantage of the capabilities of these
formats. For instance: With the high-reso-
lution preview function, which enables the
operator to position pictures in the layout

properly.

Advantages of the
DCS/DCS2
The DCS file formats (Desktop Color
Separation) offer numerous advantages,
especially when compared to the univer-
sal TIFF file format that are specific to the
professional prepress phase. For exam-
ple, instructions for the screening of pic-
tures can be incorporated directly in the
output files. Another advantage of DCS
and DCS2 is the fact that these file for-
mats contain a so-called composite that
is used for low-resolution layout proofs.
This yields a significant reduction of the
computing time required for printing such
proofs, and it also markedly reduces data
traffic in the network. Furthermore, the
DCS format makes it possible to use the
layout program to perform tonal value
adaptations in seconds when the situa-
tion demands it. In doing so, these tonal
value adaptations do not alter the pixel
values of the image data directly. Instead,
they control the tonal value reproduction

The Sinar Quality Chain:
From the Digital Exposure to the Printing Press

During the development and design of

new cameras and accessories, Sinar
relies on the competence gained over
more than 50 years of experience. High-
resolution Sinaron Digital lenses, for
instance, are calibrated and tested indi-
vidually, so that the photographer can
truly derive the full benefit of the maxi-
mum resolving power of the valuable
Digital Back.

Dependability and problem-free opera-

tion are two important objectives that
Sinar has established for the develop-
ment and production of its electronic
devices and user software. The highly
successful Sinarback Digital Back and
its exposure program, the Sinar Capture-
Shop™ are excellent proofs of those
criteria.

More and more, an efficient quality

chain from the exposure all the way to
the printing press is becoming an impor-
tant concern. From scaling, histogram
analysis and optimal screening to the
smooth workflow in the layout program,
the Sinar CeMagYK offers the user a
highly efficient professional tool.
