thoughts like

in the womb

embroider the sadness the grandeur


the tiles of time designed like a lake
or hammock suspended between two pines

the woman is thinking too much these days—


lighthouses, meadows, squares on canvas,
Mirós studio, Monet’s garden at Giverny

the language of art unwritten uncontained


silent footsteps outside the rooms
unlocked

the library the moon a blue handbag a wolf


the map the sculpture French to be translated
a box without two walls the idealist the recluse
murals & the sea

she finds 3 compasses hidden


behind books in the library

ginkgo leaves fall


in summer wind

she draws an expedition map


(Frost sat at the kitchen table and wrote)

the birds fly


from one tree to another

she remembers awareness


green spaces, light, focused

she reads about Joyce’s


weapons of a writer—

silence, exile,
& cunning

the owl observes


the lion

fragments of constraints
pencil currents

transitional minnows

Nevertheless, there is a strange contradiction…

the words—
leaves, flowers
adapt to the sun or moon

where the question is put, who shall be judge? who shall


decide the controversy?

into the forest tumbling [dreams] iconoclast redemption the


garden
in the desert awaiting answers [dreams] to know the wilderness

structure the room indivisible walls rectangle triangle the night


[dreams]
hours & pages recurrent catalogue scraps detached occasional
trembling

inquiry never a day in august the flowers drifting watched


illusions
as if they knew their daughter

the unexpected with time travel


clocks & telescopes & bells

the childhood of invent


the childhood of survival

costumes & masks & boats that sail

the pencil, the book


outside the box of intimidation

plays me a song of towers & skies

spirals, fossils stars, shells
