Steel Sector News (Domestic and Global):


I. Domestic steel prices marginally fluctuated by INR 100-400/MT on 8th Mar registering a
constant decline throughout a week's duration. As per assessment the prices of sponge
& rebar have fluctuated by INR 100-300 per MT, while billet prices increased by INR
100-400 per MT from the previous day in major markets except southern region.

II. Indian steel market trade activities remained subdued due to weak demand and good
supply during last week. Sponge iron prices came down by INR 700-1000 per MT while
billet price increased upto INR 1300 per MT.

III. China’s finished steel export declined by 27% m-o-m to 4.512 MT in Feb’19 from 6.188
MT in previous month. On yearly basis, export volume came down by 7% in Feb’19 from
4.85 MT in Feb’18.

IV. China’s iron ore import contracted by 9% m-o-m 93.08 MnT in Feb’19 from 91.26 MnT
in Jan’19. It can be noted here that average global ore price rose by 16% to USD 88 per
MT in Feb’19 from USD 76 per MT in Jan’19.
