Myanmar plans to embrace the fifth generation of wireless technology (5G) with
the support of Chinese giant Huawei Technologies Co in about two or three years,
said Huawei Myanmar deputy managing director Zhu Bo, reported the Phnom
Penh Post citing Huawei Myanmar deputy managing director Zhu Bo.
“It depends on the requirements of the telecom operators but we will be ready to
bring 5G to Myanmar over the next few years,” Zhu Bo was quoted as saying by
the news website.
Zhu said the consumer business would continue to drive Huawei Myanmar’s
growth this year.
“Devices are the key driver of our growth in Myanmar because half the population
love to use Huawei smartphones, while another brand of ours [Honor], is also
doing well here,” he was quoted as saying.
HG Metal, which first announced the investment in 2018, owns 51.04 percent of
the plant located in the East Dagon Industrial zone of Yangon. The remaining
shares owned by Singapore and Myanmar partners.
In all, the three parties invested about US$12 million in plant and machinery at the
five-acre site, according to the news website.
HG Metal chief executive Shin Taeyang said that the plant will cater to the rapid
demand for structural steel for infrastructure and high rise building projects in the
Myanmar capital and beyond, and that demand in Yangon alone is estimated at
60,000 tonnes per month.
Before the plant, HG Metal previously performed only sales and distribution in
Myanmar while performing cutting, bending and fabrication services in Singapore.
The company has another adjoining site of about three-acres for further expansion
in the future that can be used if demand picks up, reported the website.
It will be joined by exhibitors from Japan, Italy, Switzerland, India, China, South
Korea and Thailand, the Myanmar Paddy Producers Association (MPPA) was
quoted as saying.
The aim of the expo is to mark Myanmar Peasants' Day falling on March 2 and
help build connections with international participants, hold demonstrations,
business-to-business matching and display latest agro-based machinery, reported
the newspaper.
The expo will feature 80 stalls from 40 local and foreign companies.
