Senior Reflection
Upon reflection of my senior year, it has been a year about learning how to look to the future
while working in the present. As seniors in high school, we are expected to orient ourselves in a manner
that will allow for a smooth transition into the next part of our lives, while also maintaining the same level
of dedication to our work as in previous years. This balance between the future and the present was a
difficult one to maintain, but it has made me a much more efficient person in the end. Partaking in
multiple opportunities at the same time is essential to being a successful person, and senior year has made
me better at it then before. Time management is a skill I intend on continuing to develop, and am thankful
that I was able to work on it during my senior year.
A significant part of this journey was the graduation project, and my experience with completing
the project has contributed greatly to my interest within the medical field. During my junior year, I began
my volunteering journey behind the admitting desk at the Novant hospital in Matthews, and after one year
of service I became a Junior Volunteer Team Leader. This change in position shifted me from working
behind the front desk to helping manage and organize the other junior volunteers. By volunteering in both
positions, I have observed both the front lines of medicine within the hospital, and the administration side
of the hospital. The observation and participation in both sides has taught me how complex our medical
systems are, and that there is still a lot for me to learn about the complexities of a hospital.
In the future, I plan on attending either the University of South Carolina or UNC Chapel Hill and
majoring in biology on the pre-medical track. While working towards my degree, I intend on finding
more volunteer opportunities around the college campus to expand my range of experiences and give back
to the community. I also intend on participating in research opportunities on campus and working as an
EMT in order to gain as much experience in the medical field as I can before applying to medical school.
Senior year has been a year full of work, experiences, and growth. All three of these aspects of
senior year have adequately prepared me to not only reach for my future goals, but also have the
confidence in my ability to do so. This year has shown me that through hard work, setting goals, and
effectively managing my time, it is possible to both excel academically, and pursue opportunities outside
of school which are beneficial to my personal growth. Furthermore, I have learned that although pursuing
multiple opportunities at the same time can be stressful, it is a crucial part in challenging myself to
become a more efficient, and overall better person. I plan to take all of the wonderful and valuable lessons
I have learned from senior year, and applying them in my path to improving what I am capable of, and my
overall goal of becoming a physician.
