EUROPEAN UNION YOUTH ORCHESTRA

Agreement Between the EUYO and 2019 EUYO Members

Dear Tonka,

Welcome to the European Union Youth Orchestra and congratulations on being chosen from amongst
thousands of hopeful auditionees! We are delighted that you have accepted our invitation to become a
member of the EUYO 2019. The mission of the EUYO is to unite Europe's most talented young musicians
under internationally renowned conductors in an orchestra that transcends cultural, social, economic,
religious and political boundaries, all in the common pursuit of musical excellence. The highest standards
are therefore critical to the success of the EUYO, and the Orchestra seeks as its members those who are
committed to working towards such high standards.

The EUYO is a very special organisation. We like to think of it as Europe’s greatest musical family. Our
undertaking to you is to do everything that we can to make you feel at home in this family. In the
following agreement, we outline what you can expect from the EUYO and what we expect from you as an
EUYO member. Please do let us know if you have any questions: we are here to help you and the
development of your career as a musician.

What you can expect of EUYO membership:

 You will be a member of the Spring and Summer Tour Orchestras (orchestration permitting), where you
will be working with renowned conductors and soloists, including our Chief Conductor Vasily Petrenko,
and perform in famous concert halls in and out of Europe.
 You will receive Orchestral and Chamber Music Tuition during the Spring and Summer Tours from a team
of excellent, world class and experienced tutors.
 You will have the opportunity to play in chamber music and small orchestral ensembles during the
Summer Tour and perform chamber music in various locations across Europe, including on occasion
outside of formal concert halls.
 The EUYO offers to its members a series of in depth and practical ‘Music Labs’ during the Summer Tour,
which give you an opportunity to learn more about repertoire, performance and your current and
forthcoming life as a musician. Furthermore, we offer optional activities like yoga, pilates or Alexander
Technique during the Summer Tour.
 In addition to the two major tours, there are every year a Chamber Academy in Ferrara and a number
of smaller projects, ranging from small string ensembles to small orchestras. As a current member, you
have the chance to be invited to these, alongside Alumni of the Orchestra.
 For all EUYO projects that you take part in, including the major tours, the EUYO will book and pay for
your travel (including to and from the projects, but excluding transfers to and from your local airport),
accommodation, meals, and tuition. The EUYO is also responsible for the many other costs involved in
your participation, such as all invited conductor/soloist costs, management costs, music preparation
costs, any relevant visa costs and performance costs.
 The EUYO provides instruments for double bassists, harpists and percussionists.
 The EUYO Membership brings with it a number of opportunities, including the possibility to apply to
audition for the Budapest Festival Orchestra Apprenticeship Scheme, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe
Academy and the Spira Mirabilis Mentoring Programme. Additionally, the EUYO offers help and support
on a case by case basis for any specific music projects that Members and Alumni are developing. Our
aim and duty, within the resources that we have available, is to be of help and use to you professionally
once you become a Member.
What the EUYO expects from you:

 Once you have confirmed your membership for the Spring/Summer Tours, we expect and require you
to be available for the full rehearsal and touring periods, as specified in your invitation email.
 We do understand that there may be special circumstances, which require you to cancel your
participation, such as for emergency medical or work reasons. However, we would like to remind you
that a cancellation before the start of a tour places us in an extremely difficult situation, and it is usually
impossible for us to replace a player at short notice with another player of an equivalent standard. We
ask you to acknowledge this difficulty, and that by signing this Agreement you hereby undertake to take
all reasonable steps to avoid cancellation.
 The EUYO aims to be one of the world’s outstanding orchestras, and you have been chosen because you
have demonstrated to us the level of skill and commitment that is the starting point for the creation of
a great orchestra. We expect you to arrive at EUYO projects with a thorough knowledge of the music to
be performed, including having prepared all parts made available to you in advance, and also having
familiarised yourself with all the repertoire.
 We hope that you will want to participate in all activities that are provided, including Chamber Music
and optional events like Music Labs, but we acknowledge that you do not have to take part in any events,
which are optional.
 You will need to provide spending money for any extras such as snacks or drinks, and transfers to and
from your local airport.
 You will need to have valid travel and health insurance and be able to show proof of it at the beginning
of any tour.
 It is your responsibility to provide adequate insurance for your instrument.
 Agreement that EUYO has full rights to all audio and visual recordings (including photographs, videos,
audio clips) and recordings of any EUYO activities on radio, television or via other media; now and in
perpetuity.

Please sign this Agreement below and return to lisa@euyo.eu

We look forward to working with you!
