Defendant.

The State of Utah, by and through the Utah County Attorney’s Office, charges the
defendant with the commission of the following offenses:

COUNT 1: ATTEMPTED RAPE OF A CHILD, a first degree felony, in violation of


Utah Code Ann 76-5-402.1, in that on or about March 14, 2019, in Utah County, the
defendant, Randy Lee Hale did attempt to have sexual intercourse with a child under the
age of 14 years at the time of the offense.

The presumptive sentence for a conviction of this offense is 15 years to life.

COUNT 2: ENTICING A MINOR OVER THE INTERNET, a second degree felony, in


violation of Utah Code Ann 76-4-401, in that on or about March 1, 2019 through March
14, 2019, in Utah County, the defendant, Randy Lee Hale did , knowingly use a computer
to solicit, seduce, lure, or entice, or attempted to use a computer to solicit, seduce, lure, or
entice a minor or a person the defendant believed to be a minor to engage in any sexual
activity which was a violation of state criminal law.

PROBABLE CAUSE STATEMENT: Ben Haight of the Orem Police Department,


having probable cause to believe that the defendant committed the above-listed offenses,
submitted the following evidence in support of the filing of this Information: On or
between March 1 and 14, 2019, Randy Hale engaged in a sexually-charged conversation
with an undercover law enforcement officer, who Hale thought was a 13-year-old girl.
During the social media messaging/texts, Hale requested that the "victim" meet him to
engage in sexual intercourse, which would have been a first degree felony Rape of a
Child. Police surprised him at Orem Junior High School, where he was hoping to meet
the "victim." Post-Miranda, Hale confessed and said he had brought condoms for his
illicit sexual rendezvous.

Hale is being held in jail on $10,000 cash/bond bail.

Based upon evidence received from Ben Haight of the Orem Police Department, I have
reason to believe the defendant committed the offenses as charged herein.
