J&C Joel Acoustic Motorised Double Roller Banners can provide an effective sound baffle for all manner of
performance spaces. Designed with simplicity and practicality in mind, each unit features a protective casing which
can be powder coated to a colour of your choosing or fitted with aluminium composite which can be wrapped to suit
any architectural finish. Within the protective casing is an aluminium drive roller mounted on bearings that is driven by
a single phase, single speed motor unit that has limit switches that control the unit’s travel distance. Two guide rollers
positioned within the casing offer guidance to the acoustic banner upon deployment.

The banner itself can be manufactured using either Bonded Wool Serge or Harmony. Bonded Wool Serge is
manufactured from two layers of Wool Serge bonded together, generally a colour on the face and black on the rear, to
create an anechoic fabric ideal for Acoustic Motorised Roller Banners. Bonded Wool Serge can be custom dyed, and
the weight of the fabric can range from 1kg/m 2 to 1.3kg/m 2 depending on client requirements. Harmony is a 100%
Trevira CS IFR fabric which has acoustic properties ideal for Acoustic Motorised Roller Banners. Harmony can be
digitally printed to match any environment and weighs 350g/m 2. The roller banner fabric is attached to the drive roller
by using 50mm Velcro strip. When two turns are added to the roller the fabric then passes over a guide roller as it
comes out of the roller banner’s casing. A bottom roller is then inserted to ensure that the two layers of fabric are kept
apart. The fabric is then secured to the top guide roller back in the protective casing, effectively providing a single
continuous piece of fabric kept apart by a bottom roller.

The gap between the two fabric sections of the double roller banner controls the level of acoustic baffle offered by the
unit. The bottom rollers inserted to keep the roller banner’s fabric apart are available with a diameter of 75mm each
offering a different level of sound baffle. J&C Joel’s range of Wool Serge fabrics and Harmony are available in widths
of upto 1.5m. In banners upto 1.5m the fabric will be seamless. In units wider than 1.5m the banner’s fabric will be
joined using horizontal seams. The units are generally controlled via a wireless handset that can be used to
manipulate units individually and in groups. Each unit is powered by a single-phase 13-amp power switch. Other
control options are also available. Acoustic Motorised Double Roller Banners can also be installed with side guides if
installed over windows and other light sources for blackout purposes.

The range of retractable acoustic solutions allows for variable acoustic performance in any given space. This is
important to consider this when the end client would like to retain the natural reverberation of the area in question.
Theatres, arenas and other performance spaces are usually designed with a specific reverberation time and so it can
be important to keep this whilst being able to change the acoustics with the touch of a button.
