Alexandria, VA – Legendary entertainer Pat Boone, spokesman for the 60 Plus Association, a
national non-partisan senior citizen group, today announced that Maryland State Senator Alex
Mooney has again been awarded the group’s Honorary Guardian of Seniors’ Rights award.
Mooney is running to continue to represent Maryland in the 3rd District of the Maryland State
Senate.
Boone continues to entertain at concert appearances and is also familiar to American audiences
as a star of film and television. Boone has had 38 top-ten hits since his recording career began
in the 1950s, and, according to Billboard magazine, holds the record for the most consecutive
weeks (220) on the charts by any performer.
Calling Mooney a “fighter for the elderly,” Boone, speaking for 60 Plus, remarked, “I’m still
singing at concerts, but today I am singing the praises of Alex Mooney.” Boone, 76, and his
wife, Shirley, have been married for 55 years and reside in Beverly Hills, California.
“Alex Mooney can always be counted on to protect Social Security and Medicare,” Boone said.
Chairman Martin added “Alex Mooney will continue to be a tax cutter, protecting the pocket
books of senior citizens. Nationally, 60 Plus calls on over 5.5 million seniors for support so I
believe I can speak on behalf of seniors when I say that they can count on Alex Mooney. Seniors
and all Marylanders will have no finer friend in the Maryland State Senate than Mooney.”
The Association’s Guardian Award is presented to Democrats and Republicans in Congress
based on their “senior friendly” voting records. The Honorary Award is given to those running
for office and is based on their views on issues of importance to seniors.

The 60 Plus Association is an 18-year-old nonpartisan organization working for death tax repeal, saving Social
Security, affordable prescription drugs, lowering energy costs and other issues featuring a less government, less
taxes approach. 60 Plus calls on support from nearly 5.5 million citizen activists. 60 Plus publishes a magazine,
SENIOR VOICE, and a Scorecard, bestowing awards on lawmakers of both parties who vote “pro-senior.” 60
Plus has been called, “an increasingly influential senior citizen’s group” and since 1992 “the conservative
alternative to the AARP.”
