Some of the most destructive hurricanes that make landfall in the US start aa a group of thunderstorm s

moving west

This group of storms feed off the warmth and the moisture of the ocean

Air rises then to form nore storms and is replaced constantly by the surrounding air

Below all this air rising, low pressure develops.

Riding along tbe trade winds and rotating counterclockwise thanks to the Coriolis effect, a result of the
Earth's rotation.

The storm will keep growing as long as it has these key ingredients:

water temperature at or above 79 degrees

ocean water versus land - hurricanes don't like land

high pressure above it

They need open water to survive

Weak flow or what we call alack of vertical wind shear above a hurricane is vital to keep it intensifying

The eye of the hurricane

It forms as air rotates up and out of this hurricane

As some of the air that is being spit out at the top of the storm then sinks back into the center keeping
the eye itself relatively calm and clear

The eye wall most violent part of the hurricane . the most intense speeds at the surface but they can
extend of course out from the storm center

Why do storm spin in diffe direction depending on their locationThe coriolis effect

Northern hemisphere tthey sspin counterclockwise

Southern hemisphere spinning clockwise

a phenomenon that causes fluids like water and air to curve as they travel across or above Earth's
surface

Earth is constantly spinning around its axis fron West to East because Earth is a sphere and wider in the
middle points around the equator is spinning faster than points near the poles
Area of the hurricane is low pressure center as a result the high pressure air surrounding the center or
eyes of the storm is constantly rushing toward the low pressure void in the middle but because of the
coriolis effect, the air rushing toward the center is deflected off course

In the northern hemisphere, the volumes of air pop
