A Book Character of Your Choice

“Protect this space with all your might.

Fill the room with love and light.
Bless the spirits that haunt this space.
Help them cross over to the light.
So Mote it be!” 1

A few years ago, a woman could be seen sitting at a table doing something that

looked like fortune-telling in Selfridges department store right next to my concession.

This woman happened to be Jayne Wallace, the U. K’s most well-known clairvoyant and

tarot reader. At the time I was unaware of her abilities until I purchased her book, “My

Psychic Stories: Amazing true stories of spirit contact” and got to know about her life.

On first appearances she looked great, healthy with long brown hair, incredible

tan but with just a slight limp. This contrasts with how she is described in the book as

“having rheumatoid arthritis, a chronic autoimmune system disease that attacks and

eventually destroys the joints”.2 The tan apparently came from her trips abroad to help

with the pain in her joints.

When she was five, she experienced a visitation of a young woman who came

down to her as a shining light. She was around sixteen/ seventeen years old and saw

her so vividly she could describe her exact appearance. It was her spirit guide under the

name of ‘Star’. ‘Star’ would always be present and give her messages to pass on or

very often she would help her choose the right path in life by persuading her towards

certain actions like meeting Paul Kelly, the managing director of the Selfridges group,

through reading her friend’s cards in the café in the London store. She got his attention

as he was passing, and let him know she was doing reading to which he replied “I don’t

believe in all that”. She then proved to him she knew something hidden and private

about him. He “was welling up”3 and then told her “I want you to come and work here.”4

This was against the norm as it was always others who would ask him for work. She

then went on to get a group of clairvoyants, palmists, and friends together and this is

how ‘Psychic Sisters’, “the first psychic concession in a department store in the world” 5

was born.

People would come to her from far and wide from famous celebrities to Arab

princesses. She would treat all them equally and pass on information regardless of who

they were. She has also appeared on The Graham Norton Show6 and Haunted7. She

would help find missing people and predicted death on certain occasions and warned a

friend of an incident he would be involved in, in the future, but was unable to prevent his

shooting. She could determine whether a person had had ‘a previous life’. She became

a healer so she could aid people who have illnesses.

Despite all the help and healing that she provided to others, she couldn’t help

herself. Apart from here premature marriage at seventeen which didn’t last a year, she

never married or had children despite being one of eight. In my opinion this is because

of her ‘ill elements’. I believe she is a good person and does a lot for people who are

open and allow her into their lives. When I met her in Selfridges, Trafford Centre on the

day of her doing the readings, the day was quiet and she offered a reading which I

declined because I was afraid of such things. Perhaps, If I had known about her or read

her book previously, I would have accepted the offer, however, my friend accepted the

reading and it was incredibly emotional. She found it very comforting after the recent

loss of her son.
