Structure of the study course
This study course offers vocally and musically gifted students
an education which is in accordance with current standards
for all-round vocalists, musicians and actors. It promotes the
further development of student’s individual artistic
personality.
The programme prepares students for the M.A. programmes
Opera and Lied/Oratorio/Concert at the Berlin University of
the Arts.

Foreigners with a German school leaving certificate or a
university degree should submit their certificate. A separate
proof of language skills is not required.
• Applicants from the People’s Republic of China, Vietnam
and Mongolia have to pass a special visa procedure. Please
get in contact with the Academic Evaluation Centre (APS),
which is attached to the German Embassy, in good time
before the application. Detailed information and the forms

Admission procedure
These generally take place in June/early July for the
following winter semester and in January/early February for
the following summer semester.
The admissions procedure consists of a preselection and the
entrance examination:
Applicants should prepare five pieces of their own choice of
different character. One should be a lied and the others
should derive from the area of opera/operetta and
oratorio/concerto.
Except for the oratorio all pieces should be performed by
memory. At least one piece has to be in German.
Furthermore applicants have to recite a short text in German
by heart (approx.2 minutes, not from a musical work).

Applicants from other universities

Applicants from other universities or courses must follow the
same admission procedure as first-time students.
Previously earned credits as well as an applicant’s
placement in a certain semester will only be assessed after
the applicant has been accepted to the programme.
