Protective Device Coordination (PDC)
It is compulsory to properly select and set the power system protective devices to accomplish this goal line.
This proficient by performing a time current evaluation between the protective devices. Coordination is
generally a concession between the mutually desirable but somewhat unreliable goals of maximum
protection and maximun service continuity. With the use of precast circuit breakers it is usually dreadful to
synchronize the system in the instantaneous region due to the overlap of curves unless a zone interlock is
utilized. For this and other details, such as established system design, many combinations of device
situations may be classified as acceptble.
The figure 6-2. Shows the final protective device coordination (PDC) simulation using the software EDSA
Paladin Design base.
Arc Flash Calculation
IEEE 1584
IEEE 1584 takes into interpretation the heat of an arc, and not the secondary properties such as molten
metal spatter and pressure-wave effects. The guides for determining arc flash incident energy levels and
protection boundaries. It contains an empirical calculation method based upon extensive test results using
a Design-of-Experiments (DOE) method, resulting in a 95% confidence level that the arcing fault current will
be higher than calculated. In situations where the empirical method does not apply, the “Lee” method is
recommended, and is described in IEEE 1584.
This method is valid for the following systems with following characteristics;
Voltage range of 208V – 15kV
Frequencies of 50hz or 60hz
Voltage current range of 700A – 106kA
Grounding of all types and ungrounded
Gaps between conductor of 13mm-152mm
Faults involving three phases – in applying the empirical method it is assumed that a phase-to-
ground fault will escalate into a phase-to-phase fault

According to the arc flash by the help of the software paladin design base. It shows that in every generator
given there must be a Globe Glass which is in level 2, the Insulated tools should be used, the proper suit
should be use as well as for the eye protection and finally it is internment to Non melting FR hair/beard nets
for safety purposes. It has a given 13.8kv and max short circuit of 3.7 Ka.
