World Wide Fund for Nature

OUR AIM
 We need to stop damaging our only life support system.
 A system on which, factually, we all depend (whether people ignore it or not).
 We need to share our world with all the other species that live on it. Respectfully. Harmoniously.
 And we must stop being the cause of their disappearance. Their extinction.
 We must also learn to live with what natural resources are available to us.
 It's not hard. It's not rocket science. It just means that in living, we must stop polluting. And poisoning.
And being so outrageously wasteful.
 OUR MISSION

To stop the degradation of the planet's natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in
harmony with nature, by:

 conserving the world's biological diversity

 ensuring that the use of renewable natural resources is sustainable
 Promoting the reduction of pollution and wasteful consumption.

OUR APPROACH & GOALS

WWF has 2 approaches for conserving biodiversity

1. Conserving the Earth’s most outstanding places.

2. Conserving species that are particularly important for habitat or for people.

Strategically focusing efforts on global priority places and species will also help conserve the many other species which share these habitats
and/or are vulnerable to the same threats.
2050 Biodiversity Goal

By 2050, the integrity of the most outstanding natural places on Earth is conserved, contributing to a more secure and sustainable future for all

2050 Footprint Goal

By 2050, humanity’s global footprint stays within the Earth’s capacity to sustain life and the natural resources of our planet are shared equitably

GUIDING PRINCIPLES

To guide WWF in its task of achieving the mission, the following principles have been adopted. WWF will:

 be global, independent, multicultural and non-party political

 use the best available scientific information to address issues and critically evaluate all its endeavours
 seek dialogue and avoid unnecessary confrontation
 build concrete conservation solutions through a
combination of field based projects, policy initiatives,
capacity building and education work
 involve local communities and indigenous peoples in the
planning and execution of its field programmes,
respecting their cultural as well as economic needs
 strive to build partnerships with other organizations,
governments, business and local communities to enhance
WWF’s effectiveness
 run its operations in a cost effective manner and apply
donors’ funds according to the highest standards of
accountability.
Waves for Water
The mission is simple: get clean water to every person who needs it.
Access to clean water improves personal and civic well-being, increases overall health, reduces poverty and increases opportunities for
education and employment, contributing to the overall advancement of individuals and their communities. We work on the front lines
to provide access to clean water through the distribution of portable water filters, the digging and renovating of wells, and the
construction of rainwater harvesting and storing systems in places where groundwater is not accessible.

Founded by Jon Rose in 2009 as a way for travelers do what they love and help along the way, Waves For Water launched with a our
Courier Program -- a DIY (Do-It-Yourself) distribution network of travelers who carry water filters with them in their luggage, eliminating
the distribution challenges faced by philanthropic aid programs. Since then, the Waves For Water programing has touched over 7 million
people in more than 27 countries, including Sierra Leone, Indonesia, Nicaragua, Haiti, Brazil, Liberia, Mexico, India, and Colombia. The
organization was also the first non-profit to team up with a U.S. Military battalion, in an active war zone, to help people in need along
the Kunar River in Afghanistan.

In addition to our primary focus around clean water, we coordinate and execute natural disaster relief efforts around the world. Over
the past four years, we’ve responded to almost every major global disaster, earthquake or tsunami: in Nepal, Bosnia, Philippines,
Indonesia, Haiti, Japan, and Chile; in Pakistan, India and Mexico; and on the east coast of the United States with a comprehensive
initiative in response to “Superstorm-Sandy."

Do What You Love and Help Along the Way

Waves For Water’s philosophy is rooted in “doing what you love and helping along
the way.” It’s about following your heart and plugging purpose into your passion.
We encourage people to look at aid-work or humanitarianism as a lifestyle, rather
than a component of doing good and giving back. It’s a paradigm shift in the way
we currently think: you do what you love - sail, surf, bike, hike, etc.... and then plug
in a purpose along the way. Not only does it create a very vital existence, it
enhances everything you do.
“Guerilla Humanitarianism”

Guerrilla Humanitarianism is about taking a no - nonsense, stripped down approach to determining the essentials needed to complete a
task: you take matters into your own hands, bringing a solution directly to a problem, under the radar and around the red tape.
Encouraged by the proven efficiency of this model, Waves For Water is focused on effecting a global change, one that addresses the
challenges faced by philanthropic initiatives in a more decentralized way.

Help the Helpers

Based on our experience of developing and empowering local networks, Waves

For Water partners with organizations, corporations, and/or individuals to
implement our programs through those who choose to use their skills to step up
and take on leadership roles in their respective communities. This process enables
us to truly connect with people, establish a sense of trust and rapport, and
provide a high level of individual attention and personal care to all of our projects.
It’s our belief that collectively we have the ability to stand as one.
Save Philippine Seas
Save the Philippines Seas (SPS) is an independent movement that was first organized by a handful of
concerned individuals, who acted upon a report on April 9, 2011, regarding a US-based company allegedly
importing shells, corals, and other endangered marine wildlife from Indo-Pacific countries, including the
Philippines. The group went public on May 26, 2011, via the #reefwatchPH hashtag on Twitter.

“We are here to help spark the political will to promote compliance. From a handful of individuals who
worked together last month, our number has grown exponentially. We have created a movement called Save Philippine Seas, which is
currently conducting a marine resource watch, actively lobbying and researching on the amendment of penalties, enforcement of law,
and keeping citizenry aware through social media. We have received an overwhelming number of messages from Filipinos and non-
Filipinos from here and abroad offering their help. The bayanihan spirit is very much alive…. The rape of our rich marine resources is not
just of national concern, but INTERNATIONAL concern because of its global significance.”
(Excerpt from the speech given by SPS member Anna Oposa on June 1, 2011 at the Senate investigation on coral plunder)

What We Do:
 research and investigate
 lobby for amendment and enforcement of environmental laws
 keep the citizenry aware and involved
Earth Island Institute
OUR MISSION
Earth Island Institute is an international environmental organization that promotes awareness, grassroots
environmentalism and activism for the protection, conservation and restoration of nature.

Our Advocacy
Earth Island Institute is an international environmental organization that promotes awareness,
grassroots environmentalism and activism for the protection, conservation and restoration of
nature.
Earth Island Institute was founded in San Francisco, USA in 1982 by well-known American
environmentalist David Brower. Brower, together with other visionary and dedicated
environmental activists created a nimble, streamlined organization to support the work of bold
individuals with big ideas on how to restore, preserve and nurture the environment.
Earth Island grows environmental leadership through education and activism. Our projects, publications, and
initiatives support the biological and cultural diversity that sustain the environment.

THE INTERNATIONAL MARINE MAMMAL PROJECT

One of the first projects spearheaded by Earth Island is the International Marine Mammal Project (IMMP), dedicated to make the oceans
safe for all marine mammals, as well as marine ecosystems on which they depend.
The IMMP leads the global effort to stop the slaughter of dolphins, end commercial whaling, end the use of driftnets and other
destructive fishing practices and to protect key whale and dolphin habitats.

EARTH ISLAND INSTITUTE PHILIPPINES

In the Philippines, Earth Island Institute implements the International Monitoring Program (IMP) which monitors the biggest tuna
companies in the region, ensuring that fishing operations conform to the highest standards of sustainability. The EII-Phils likewise
maintains an on-board monitoring program for all tuna fishing companies.
CAMPAIGNS
EII-Phils regularly undertake campaigns aimed to educate the public about animal welfare and the environment. EII-Phils, together with
other environmental and animal welfare organizations, lead campaigns against dolphin captivity to enlighten the public about the
cruelty of keeping intelligent animals such as dolphins for human amusement.
EII-Phils partners with communities in the Philippines in promoting grassroots environmentalism. We are in solidarity with farmers,
fisherfolk and indigenous peoples as they reclaim and restore the commons.
EII-Phils is also part and convenor of SAVE FREEDOM ISLAND MOVEMENT that aims to restore and protect Freedom Island Bird
Sanctuary (Las Pinas-Paranaque Critical Habitat & Eco-tourism Area) against threats of relentless garbage disposal in Manila Bay and the
impending reclamation project of the PRA that will destroy the area’s ecosystem.
