Week One - Context

CONTEXT

How did you find coming up
with an idea that challenged
you enough for your FMP?
Coming up with an idea was very difficult at first as I had originally
wanted to do a radio show in the style of drivetime however this idea
was considered too easy as this was an area where I had proved to be
quite strong in so I wasn’t challenging myself enough. I decided then it
was best for me to do a documentary on something that I feel
passionate about, and this eventually came down to music, and in the
end I decided to do a documentary on music education and how it is
failing as a subject. This will challenge me as documentary making is an
area which I am experienced in but still need to show my full potential in
creating an effective and informative documentary by myself.
My other idea was to do a documentary on Wetherspoons as there is a
wetherspoons nearby where I could film at and many interview options.
And there is also a history behind Wetherspoons which I could talk
about, however this idea proved ineffective as people may not be
interested.

How has writing a proposal
helped you with finalising
your idea?
Writing a proposal has helped me get my initial plan written down so
that I can now focus on my research and actually producing my
documentary. I have got down all of my ideas in the proposal and what
I plan to do as well as how I plan to do it, and I have spoken about how
it is an opportunity to improve upon my previous documentaries.

How did the feedback help
you adapt your idea – what
did you change after
feedback?
I was able to gather information from surveys about what people want
to see from my production and what I can include. I didn’t change
anything from my idea, but I did add things via suggestions from the
surveys, ie somebody suggested that I interview current music students
to see what they think about music education as a subject. Something
which I hadn’t thought of initially.
Are you on track for the I am currently on track for most of my work and it is on my website
week? If not, how far behind however I feel a lot of it can be improved especially the brief, also I
are you? haven’t yet finished my potential issues document so this needs to be
done.

What work do you need to I need to improve my brief by making it a bit more clear by going into
complete outside of lessons deeper detail and I also need to complete my issues document and
