Where There Is a Will, There Is a Way

Some people may have had easier life, some may have had it harder. But for sure
my life has been hard enough to sincerely teach me how to appreciate an
opportunity.
Before I speak any further, let me introduce myself. The boy’s descent Sunda-
Manado has a full name of Bobby Fitzgerald Rambet Junior. Here for the first time
on earth on March 16th 2001.
Throughout these years, I have learned that I can’t rely on my father to fund my
studies at all. Funding my study in Indonesia seemed quite demanding for him let
alone going abroad. In Indonesia there are two ways for students to be admitted in
a state university. One is through an examination, where anyone with no exception
can apply. Two is by a form of an invitation, where only 40% from each school is
going to be selected and those who are selected don’t need to take part in any kind
of examination, and praise be to God I am included. But for now I am going to focus
on my finals which will be one of the graduation criteria. After graduation, I expect
nothing but the chance to sharpen my knowledge and skills but mainly my passion
for travelling and language learning. As I came across this scholarship in social
media, I knew I would have the regret for my whole life if I don’t make use of this
opportunity. Because truly, I should be regretting the things that I didn’t do rather
than what I did. That said, I regret I didn’t participate as much in projects,
competitions and communities. From such a young age my mother always noted
that I have good abilities in acquiring new languages, especially trying different
accents. As I get older, I began to notice that through language can we expand our
world and connect with people and so when I was old enough to travel alone, I
decided to put my skills to the test. Travelling has taught me lesson that no book or
video could ever give me. It has slowly made me to always go outside my comfort
zone, it has taught me how to spend and manage my money, especially if you’re
travelling from your own savings that would be imperative, I’ve worked up my
cultural awareness from it and many more yet to come. I was so fascinated, yet
suprised of how little I know whenever I’m having a talk with someone I just met.
Also, I realized I need to improve my communication skills because I keep saying
things that are foolish which resulted a misunderstanding. Only then was I always
looking forward and cherish to the chances I get to make new friends from all
around the world with different cultures. Over the course of 3 years, I have gone
deep into the world of fitness, mainly calisthenics and it has trained me to be
discipline and committed which I think two of the most valuable soft skills that I’m
going to need to help me get pass through obstacles when I’m studying in the
tourism industry. Because soon I might realize how exceptionally demanding the
field can be.
Whenever I’m talking about studying abroad with my mother, she has always been
hard on me, trying to say no nonverbally. But when I told her it was from Turkey,
suddenly we clicked. I don’t know for what reason but maybe because she knew
that Turkey is a muslim-majority country. I’ve always had the desire to study abroad
since I was around 13 and being told that Turkey is stable in terms of education, is
like an opened door for me. Nevertheless, Turkish Universities provide high level
education in various fields. For its high standard, everyone must be able to adjust
and adapt in order to compete. Turkish Universities also have a great position in the
international rank. According to Webomatrics, there are 11 Universities that are on
the top 1000 in the world. This proves that Turkey is competitive in education. It
may seem cliche and shallow what I am about to write, as average as it may sound,
but the truth is The Republic of Turkey is strategically, geographically, culturally
connected to Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and The Middle East. Knowing that the
country’s natural beauty and cultural assets are the one of the biggest factors of
huge growth potential in the tourism industry and tourism is a key factor of the
Turkish economy, studying in the tourism industry in the country would be
beneficial. Seeing the country has made a tremendous bounce back in 2018 after a
series of incidents, is what really draws me in. I woud love to learn how the country
overcome such difficulty, what strategy and action plan to make Turkey a top
visited destination of the world. But if I may be honest, I may not know Turkey as
much as I should and I still have so much to learn about the country, but I believe
realizing that I don’t know everything is going to fill my life with curiosity. With
these factors, continuing my study in Turkey is going to enhance my critical
thinking, it will give me an opportunity to meet a diverse range of people,
experience both modernity and tradition, and last but not least it shall teach me to
appreciate my home country and family more. If I am given the opportunity to do
so, with knowledges I shall receive in Turkey, I am going to put my plan I have for
my country into practice. My main focus would be to figure out a way how I can
help turn the resolution of developing the facility and infrastructure for tourist
attraction into reality, because one of the two biggest obstacles in the indonesian
tourism sector, is the lack of infrastructure development. I want to seek key factors
on how to solve infrastructure and environmental problems arising in regions where
tourism movements get denser with a close contributions of infrastructure users.
Mentioning the environmental problems, it also has been the key problem in the
tourism sector. Tourists often complained for the contaminated environment. Rules
that are made are not forceful and people think by throwing away small amount
would be no harm. There are ways that I would like to try to promote people
conscious or unconsciously make the decision to keep the environment clean.
Making it interesting for people to throw wastes or just forcing them to do so, like
it or not. I am also going to make an effort on revealing and exposing the cultural,
artistic values and heritage through social media. To implement such goal I need to
improve my problem solving skill and acquire the special knowledge in the tourism
industry, which will be possible if I am granted this scholarship.
To sum up, I would like to say that I am eager to gain new experiences, I am ready
to face the challenge and I am ready to compete.
Thank you very much for considering my application. I look forward to your
positive response.
Yours sincerely,
Bobby Fitzgerald
