Dear Mr. Hall,

The La Marque Independent School District Summer School Academy that

begins June 5, 2010 has vacant positions for grades 6-8 that I would like to
fill, and that I am highly qualified for. I have taken interest in this position as
I have become more knowledgeable about how to align TEKS–based
instruction with the needs of LMMS students. Furthermore, I have had the
opportunity to teach 7th grade social studies for three years, in addition to 7 th
grade science for the 2009-2010 school year. As chronicled in my resume
my time at LMISD has allowed me the privilege, and opportunity to serve in
leadership positions, and positions that have allowed me to gain an immense
knowledge of curriculum and instruction at the Middle School level. My
experiences with the students and faculty on this campus support my
request for the position of summer school instructor, and I assure you that
my involvement in the program will greatly benefit our students.

I had the opportunity to work as a Cougar Academy ( Saturday school) 8 th

grade social studies instructor during the 2006 – 2007, 2008-2009, and the
2009-2010 school years; therefore, I am familiar with the structure and
impact that supplemental instruction can have on our student population.
During this time I was able to facilitate TEKS-based lessons that increased
both the academic and social skills of our students also taught summer
school to assist those students who struggled during the school year and
needed additional help to transition to a higher-level curriculum. My ability
to reach such targeted groups of students would help drive the purpose and
focus of the 2010 summer school in a positive direction. . In the past 12
months I have also increased my certification field to include: Special
Education EC-12 and Agricultural studies 6-12.

Through coaching and serving on the Campus Improvement Committee, I

have built a strong rapport among students, faculty, parents, and community
members. Coaching has afforded me the opportunity to not only work with
students possessing athletic prowess, but also work with students of various
academic levels; especially, those who struggle with their grade-level
curriculum. I have been successful in motivating those particular students to
strive for success on and off the field by meeting and collaborating with
them and their parents. By working on the Campus Improvement Plan, I
worked diligently with a team of educators to help identify the most critical

needs of our campus and our students. I am highly motivated and dedicated
to proceed with those initiatives, and working with 2010 summer school
would be an outstanding way to ensure that those principles are enforced.

I look forward to talking to you about the social studies instructor position
available for Cougar Academy. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Robert Lewis Jr.
