MEDICAL PIPE SIZING COMPUTATION:

Project: ARAR HOSPITAL

1. Oxygen pipe sizing:

Design Data:

First floor O2 flow as per calculation = 364LPM

Length of pipe from source: (As Example)

10 + 24 + 33 + 9 + 10 = 86 m (from O2 tank to 1st floor)

From HTM 02-01 Handbook Medical gas pipeline systems - table A2

attached in file “4Bar Pipe Sizing. PDF”:
Pipe size is 22mm (3/4”) at 7kPa pressure loss.

Pipe size is taken 1” at main for reduce pressure drop.

Note:
The required size of branches and risers may be obtained in the same manner
as above method.

2. Vacuum pipe sizing:

Design Data:

First floor VAC flow as per calculation = 795LPM

Length of pipe from source: (As Example)

10 + 24 + 33 + 9 + 10 = 86 m (from Vacuum Pump to 1st floor)

From HTM 02-01 Handbook Medical gas pipeline systems - table A2

attached in file “Vacuum Pipe Sizing. PDF”:
Pipe size is 54mm (2”) at 2.6 kPa pressure loss.

Note:
The required size of branches and risers may be obtained in the same manner
as above method.
3. Medical Air 4Bar Pipe sizing:

Design Data:

First floor MA4 flow as per calculation = 445LPM

Length of pipe from source: (As Example)

10 + 24 + 33 + 9 + 10 = 86 m (from Compressor to 1st floor)

From HTM 02-01 Handbook Medical gas pipeline systems - table A2

attached in file “4Bar Pipe Sizing. PDF”:
Pipe size is 22mm (3/4”) at 10kPa pressure loss.

Pipe size is taken 1” at main for reduce pressure drop.

Note:
The required size of branches and risers may be obtained in the same manner
as above method.

4. Medical Air 7Bar Pipe sizing:

Design Data:

First floor MA7 flow as per calculation = 1793 LPM

Length of pipe from source: (As Example)

10 + 24 + 33 + 9 + 10 = 86 m (from Compressor to 1st floor)

From HTM 02-01 Handbook Medical gas pipeline systems - table A2

attached in file “7Bar Pipe Sizing. PDF”:
Pipe size is 35mm (1 1/2”) at 7kPa pressure loss.

Note:
The required size of branches and risers may be obtained in the same manner
as above method.

5. N2O Pipe sizing:

Design Data:

First floor N2O flow as per calculation = 76LPM

Length of pipe from source: (As Example)

10 + 24 + 33 + 9 + 10 = 86 m (from N2O Bottles to 1st floor)

attached in file “4Bar Pipe Sizing. PDF”:
Pipe size is 15mm (1/2”) at 6kPa pressure loss.

Pipe size is taken 3/4” at main for reduce pressure drop.

Note:
The required size of branches and risers may be obtained in the same manner
as above method.

6. AGSS pipe sizing:

Design Data:

First floor AGSS flow as per calculation = 1365LPM

Length of pipe from source: (As Example)

10 + 9 + 5 = 24 m (from AGSS Vac Pump Roof to 1st floor)

attached in file “Vacuum Pipe Sizing. PDF”:
Pipe size is 76mm (3”) at 1.3kPa pressure loss.

Note:
The required size of branches and risers may be obtained in the same manner
as above method.

7. O2 Tank Capacity:

Design Data:
Oxygen Usage = 20m3/month/bed.
No. Of Beds = 300 beds.
Oxygen usage per month = 20 x 300 = 6000m3/month.
Assuming one week storage = 6000 / 4 = 1500m3/week.
Each manifold contains up to 9m3.
No. of manifold = 44 manifolds as you mentioned .
Total volume of manifolds = 44 x 9 = 396 m3.
Liquid oxygen tank(to deliver the remain volume needed) =1500 – 396 =1104m3

We will use 20 manifolds supply & 16 manifolds reserve and 8 manifolds
