EXERCISE B:

Figure 1.7 shows a detail and design of staircase for the double story art gallery. The parallel
flights are supported by landings spanning perpendicular to the flights. The flights of upward
and downward directions are separated by a void with width of 250 mm. The staircase consists
of 10 steps with overall depth of landing and waist is 150 mm while the height of riser is 150
mm. Design the staircase. Given the following data:

Characteristic of variable action = 4.0 kN/m2

Finishes and handrails = 1.2 kN/m2
Characteristic strength of concrete = 25 N/mm2
Characteristic strength of steel = 500 N/mm2
Concrete cover to reinforcement = 25 mm
Diameter reinforcement = 12 mm
