Rhetorical Analysis Essay: King, Alvarez, Yousafzai

Persuasive writing and speaking advances the progress towards social justice and davance by
showing the audience why they should support the problem 100% . You could persuasive
writing in many ways like showing examples of anything like people suffering or results of the
problem affecting the world. This could also advance by the audien respecting the fact of the
argument and try to contribute as much as they can because of the facts that are in the
persuasive argument. L.F.B.J purpose was to end segregation in the US, Genetics of Justice
was to speak up against injustice, Yousafzai was for girls and everyone to receive education.
L.F.B.J use allto of Ethos and Pathos, Genetics of Justice doesn't really use anything rather
than a little pathos to connect with the reader, and Yousafzai uses a lot of everything. The text
that does the best job in advancing their purpose was Yousafzai because she uses all rhetoric
in her argument.
The main purpose of L.F.B.J was to end segregation in the United States because of all
the bad things that were happening to the colored people at the time. Throughout he text King
uses many examples of Pathos and ethos to advance his purposes. In the text Pathos is used it
states “An injustice anywhere is a threat everywhere (L.F.B.J 1) ”. This piece of evidence
advances the purpose by trying to connect to the audience by telling them that it doesn't matter
what color you are that problems anywhere should and will affect the whole community. Another
piece of text evidence is in the beginning of the text “My dear fellow Clergymen (L.F.B.J 1)”. This
piece of evidence is a example of Ethos because King is stating that he is also a Clergyman and
he knows what he's talking about. This advances the purpose in the because Dr.king wants the
Clergymen to know that he's one of them is that they will listen to his argument with no question.
Dr. King use of Rhetoric was successful but not perfect because he used very good examples
and statement but did not make very detailed but vague.
In Genetics of Justice, the main goal was to for people to speak up against injustice
anywhere in the world. Julia Alvarez throughout the text doesn't use a lot of Rhetoric but does
use Pathos her and there. In the text she uses Pathos it states “ Thousand have lost their lives
in failed attempt to return to the country to democracy(Alvarez 1)”. This is an example of Pathos
because the audience can feel the sadness of the people that lost their lives because they just
wanted the better for themselves. This advances the purpose because she used a fact of
thousands of people failing which are gonna wanna make people speak out because no one
wants that to happen anywhere. In the text a piece of Pathos is used it states “she knows
nothing of the horrid crimes of the dictatorship, for her parents were afraid to say anything- even
to their own children against the regime(Alvarez 1)”. This is a example of Pathos because
Alvarez shows the fear of her parents a expiecin gn in their loves just by knowing things that are
happening in there country. This advances the purpose because the audience shes how people
are when no one speaks up against injustice and the result is very sad and hard to see because
everyone's scared. Julia Alvarez is not as successful in her use of rhetoric because she doesn't
use a lot of Ethos or Logos which makes her argument not look as strong as it should be.
In the U.N Youth Assembly Speech by Malala Yousafzai, her main goal was for girls and
everyone to receive education around the world because kids around the world struggle
education for various reasons. Throughout the text Yousafzai use basically a good amount of
all rethorics throughout the text to advance her argument. In her argument she use Pathos it
states “Neither am I here to speak …. All the terrorist and extremist(Malala 2)”. This piece of text
is an example of Pathos because she showing that she is trying to help even the people on the
negative side of things even though they're going against her which shows a lot of passion. This
advances the purpose because she showing that we need to help everyone who basically
needs help which is what she wants to show the audience. Another Piece of evidence is Ethos
where it states “ Thank you to the elders whose prayers strength me … recover my strength
(Malala 1)”. This piece of evidence is Ethos because it shows us what Label has been through
through her life and where she gotten so the audience knows what that she very serious with
what she doing. This advances the purpose because the audience is going to want to help
because they see what this girl is doing to trying to help kids get decuatio while others can help
easily but choose no to. Malala use of rhetoric is very successful because she use a lot to prove
and back up her point and explained herself very clearly to the audience.
Out of the 3 articles the one that did the best if using Rhetoric used to advance the
purpose was Malala Yousafzai text because she used each rhetoric and used it very clearly and
well explained compared to the others where they don't have all of them clearly. Another reason
why it advances the purpose better then the others is that she used a lot of very detailed
examples to where you could imagine and feel what's happening at the time. The other 2 texts
can improve by being more detailed and using more rhetoric in general, in L.F.B.J KIng should
have been more detailed in the statements because they were very vague, and in Genetics of
Justice should of used more Rhetoric in general because there wasn't a lot. All of these pieces
are pretty successful in their own ways of how persuasive writing advance the progress towards
social and equality because they all had different purposes. In L.F.B.J, Ethos was used mainly
because King wanted to be trusted and get his point through which worked and helped a lot, In
Alvarez text, she only used Pathos mainly to connect with the audience to show the result of not
stepping up to injustice, and in Malala text her main point was to convince the world basically to
help and she used every rhetoric and backuped with good details and was very successful.
