Persuasive writing and speaking advances social justice and quality by using rhetoric to convince

them to what happening around the world. In the text letter from Birmingham jail by MLK,the
purpose of the text is to convince the clergymen who were against his protest and prove them
wrong. In the text A genetic of justice by Alvarez the purpose is to show the hardship of a
democracy country and what happen. In the article Malala yousafzai speech the purpose was to
convince people of the problem of girls education and how they are restricted and the problems
with education in foreign country. All these author used rhetoric to convince there idea.In my
opinion,Martin Luther King Jr.has the best use of rhetoric, then Malala yousafzai, ad lastly julia
alvarez.

The purpose that Martin Luther King Jr made that letter because he wanted to respond to the
white clergymen and prove them wrong by using Ethos, Pathos, Logos. Firstly, on page 9 he states
“I say it as a minute of the gospel, who loves the church, who was nurtured in it bosom”.This shows
how Martin Luther King Jr is using Ethos as he is showing he has credibility because as he is
criticizing white churches he is saying that he knows how a church is supposed to run as he was
born around one. Secondly, on page 10 of the text, he states “Where were the voices of support
when tired, bruised, and weary negro men and women decided to rise from the dark dungeon of
complacency”.This shows how Martin Luther King Jr is using pathos as he making the white
churches and white people feel guilty saying where you when we were protesting but are
thereafter. Thirdly, In the text it states on page 8 “Was Jesus not an extremist for love”.This
shows how Marthur Luther king is using logos since he is saying that he and Jesus are doing the
same thing almost and they worship him so what is different from him and Jesus.Martin luther king
Jr did a great job of using logos since he uses religion and thing that are important to the
clergymen that the other two authors did not use enough and he actually addresses the
counterargument and shows why they're wrong which is what the other two didn't do.

Malala's purpose for doing the speech is to advocate for women right and free education because
in the speech she states “But who are struggling to achieve their goal of peace, education, and
equality”.This shows pathos because she is showing how she understands the pain of people who
have no rights and those who advocate for them and are not heard. This help advances her
purpose because since she is on the side of the people who advocate she is gaining the support of
the people who support people with no education which will make her claim more effective since
more people will understand. Secondly, in the speech she states “Honorable UN secretary general
Mr.Ban-ki,respected president of the general assembly Vuk jeremic”,This helps shows Ethos
because she is showing her credibility as she has to thank the powerful people who are backing
her up giving herself credibility than if she entered herself into it which then people won’t take her
serious. This helps advance her purpose because it is helping people take her seriously and
actually listen to her and consider her statement since a leader is introducing her. lastly,In the
speech, she states “This is the philosophy of nonviolence that I have learned from Gandhi, bacha
Khan, and Mother Teresa”.This helps prove Ethos because she is saying she has learned from the
great nonviolent protester before her and will try not to disgrace them. This helps advance her
purpose because she is saying she will do what they did and make sure girls get the education they
deserve.

Alvarez's purpose is to persuade people to speak up for justice. At the beginning of the text,
Alvarez states "Alvarez's father joined a group of revolutionizer".To paraphrase Alvarez's father
joined a group of revolutionizer to stop the tyranny. This shows how Alvarez's father is speaking
up for justice as he is risking his safety and his family for change and justice. Secondly, In the text,
Alvarez's states "The revolutionaries assassinated Trujillo nine months later".To paraphrase, the
group of revolutionaries that her father joined for change eventually killed the dictator. This help
supports the claim that Alvarez is speaking up for justice as she is showing that justice always
prevails and that if you fight against it you can win. Lastly, "I don't care what happens to us? I am
so proud of you for writing this book". To summarize, Alvarez wrote a book against the
dictatorship even though told not to by family members, later on, her mom congratulate her even
though she was against it. This helps the claim because it shows that if you do speak out that not
everyone is against you and that if you do do it, you will feel great and that good thing come from it

Lastly,In my opinion the best use of rhetoric from the three articles are Martin Luther King Jr
article “letter from Birmingham jail”.I says he is the best overall because he talk about the
counter-argument and dismiss it and as a result it make his claim stronger also he uses all of the
rhetoric a lot so it it effective since he doesn't bring up the same point. These articles are effective
at using rhetoric to convince people of social justice and equality, since Martin Luther King jr
articles helped African american rights since now they have rights also because this text is still
important even now,and Malala Yousafzai article brought to people attention what is happening in
foreign country by being the example and using her own traumas to convince and it has helped
foreign country with the school education to it.
