ehicles owned by Decatur
and DeKalb County were on
display for the annual Touch
A Truck even at the East Lake
MARTA station in Decatur March 23.
Decatur firefighters, police officers
and city workers look forward to the event
every year, according to city officials.
Cheryl Burnette, assistant director of
Decatur Active Living, said participation
in Touch A Truck has grown every year.
“We love doing this event. We love
seeing all the happy faces and seeing the
children have so much fun,” Burnette said.
“We started out in a high school parking
lot and now it’s been going on for [20
years].”
Burnette said the event is a great way
for parents and children to meet with local
officials in a neutral setting.
“It’s great for the parents and kids to
meet the drivers and workers and I think
it’s great for the [Decatur] workers, too.
They love showing off their trucks,”
Burnette said.
Ram Chaturvedi, who attended the
event with his 3-year-old son, said it was
his first time attending Touch A Truck.
Chaturvedi moved to Decatur from
Washington D.C. in January and said the
event was a great way to mingle with
residents.
“We had a blast. I think this is a great,
great show,” Chaturvedi said. “We loved
it. This is beautiful. The kids loved it and
it’s a great day to be here. [Decatur] did
