Theory title: No-homework Theory Gets Mixed Grades

Theorist: D.L. Stewart

Theory Statement: An elementary school in Massachusetts announced that they would not be giving
homework to students this year but would extend the school day by two hours. They want the students to
enjoy with their friends and families when they get home from school. Some say that giving no
homework to the students have a positive effect in terms of the students’ academic performance as well as
their attitudes about learning. But some disagree, they say that homework can encourage behaviors and
foster skills that yield long-term benefits such as practice in time management. Eventually, the no-
homework may be just another educational experiment.

Theory Explanation: The theory explains that the people have mixed opinions about the implementation
of giving no homework in an elementary school in Massachusetts. Some people say that giving no
homework to students is good because the homework they could receive amounts to the extra two hours
of the school day. Some people online were almost universally opposed to the no homework concept.
They believe that homework gives the students additional knowledge and would give the students some
responsibility.

Theory Relationship: The theory states some good effects of not giving homework to the students which
can support our topic in our research paper.
