LESSON PLAN TEMPLATE

TEACHER Amanda Johnston, Hana Ahmady, Helena Whalen, T’Angèle Boudreau, Stéphanie Noel
Subject/Class/Course Science
Topic Student as individuals. (Unit 1)
Grade Level Kindergarten Duration 30 minutes

Objectives/Outcomes (Indicate GCO and SCO) (Indicate SCO in student friendly language)
GCO: Student as Individuals.
SCO: K.1.1 – Students will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of themselves as unique and special.
SFL: I can tell you what makes me special.

Introduction
Students will be greeted at the door. T’Angèle will greet them and ask them to put away their things, hang up their bags, change
their outdoor shoes to indoor shoes and let them they know that they have one minute to prepare themselves and to go pick a spot
to sit on the mat for circle time.
Agenda will be written/showed with pictures on the board. Amanda will go over the Agenda.
Anticipatory Set: Stéphanie will read a short story to introduce our outcome and topic.
APK: Before reading the book, a discussion will be led to see what students think the words “Unique” and “Special” mean. The
students will be asked what they think the cover of the book symbolizes as well as to name one thing they like about themselves.
(Maybe tell a friend next to you with your indoor voice, what that thing is)

Assessment
“All About Me” Activity Sheet – Helena will introduce/explain the work sheet and ask students to echo (or repeat) what the
instructions were to check for understanding. (Ex- Who are we drawing? Are we going to color all over our page? Or try to stay in
the lines?) While students are doing the activity, Hana, Stéphanie, Helena, Amanda and T’Angèle will circulate to check for
questions as well as to see how students are doing.

Develop the Instruction

Helena will explain each section of the “All About Me” poster. This will ensure that each section on the poster is understood by the
students. She will explain it as follows:” I put my name in the name tag nice and big so everyone can see it. You can use any of the
materials at your table to measure how tall you are. I had to ask a friend to help and that is okay. Draw or write something that you
love about yourself. I love that I have lots of friends, so I drew myself with some of them. In my family I have me, my mom, my
dad, my sister, and my cat so I drew them and wrote their names. I put that I am 29 years old and carefully wrote my address in the
house. If you need help remembering these things that is okay. We can help you. I coloured this in brown and a little yellow
because that’s what colour my hair is. I was really careful not to colour outside the square. My birthday is May 22 nd. I wrote it
inside the circle. My favorite show is Peppa Pig. Inside the tv, I drew her wearing her pink dress just like in the show. I’m in
Kindergarten and I love to eat pasta, so I drew some spaghetti. I made sure I used the colour that spaghetti really is. I took lots of
time to draw the selfie. I wanted it to look just like me. I have the right colour hair, eyes, and drew myself wearing my favorite
outfit. My poster has lots of things about me that I want you guys to know. Can someone tell me what your going to do when you
get your poster at your seat?” (check for understanding). Once it is clear that the students know what is expected they will be
invited to return to their seats by the month of their birthday. Materials and posters will be placed at each student’s seat waiting for
them to get started.

Closure
Hana will lead the closure discussion. First, students will be asked to talk about what makes them special. Then, students will be
asked to discuss the opposite, what makes them different or what do they see that is different between them. (This will lead the
opening conversation for the next outcome or topic that will be taught during the following class.)
