NCU Indonesian Cultural Day (ICD) 2017

ABOUT PPI NCU (NCU-ISA)
Indonesia Student Association at National Central University (NCU-ISA) was established on
June 30th 2007 and was inaugurated on November 21st 2007 by Indonesia Economic and
Trade Office (IETO/KDEI) Taipei. NCU-ISA represents 148 Indonesians Students (non-degree,
bachelor and post-graduate students) currently studying in NCU.
 Undergraduate student : 8 Students
 Master student : 115 Students
 PhD student : 22 Students
 Chinese department : 3 Students
NCU-ISA has the important role in several cultural and international activities. NCU-ISA has
been involved in various international activities by showcasing Indonesian culture, such as in
Final Party, NCU Sports Day and Bazaar NCU. Moreover, NCU-ISA has annual event called
Indonesian Cultural Day, especially designed to introduce and to promote the richness of
cultural diversity and the beauty of tourism in Indonesia.

NCU Indonesian Cultural Day

NCU Indonesian Cultural Day (ICD) is an annual event held by NCU-ISA to introduce the
diversity of Indonesian culture and the beauty of tourism to local Taiwanese and international
communities around National Central University Campus. This event consists of cultural
performances, culinary bazaar and cultural and tourism bazaar. There are various traditional
performances from major ethnics in Indonesia along the main performance of drama musical
about “Timun Mas ” (Golden Cucumber), a history of well-known Javanese folktale. We also
provide traditional foods from Indonesia for the visitors during culinary bazaar.

Furthermore, ICD also offers opportunities to promote cultural artworks, handicrafts and also
tourism in Indonesia through cultural and tourism bazaar. We also invite local businesses
owned by Indonesian such as culinary business and cellular telecommunication business. This
event held once in a year and since the beginning, NCU ICD received good appreciation
and full support from Office of International Affair (OIA).

EXECUTION
This event was held by NCU-ISA with supports from OIA, KDEI (Indonesian Economic and Trade
Office to Taipei), Dream Community (art community), and Telkomsel Kartu As 2 in 1.

RESULT OF EVENT
Indonesian Cultural Day (ICD) 2016 was held in Grand Lecture Hall NCU on March, 8th - 9th
2016 which was attended by The Leader of Indonesian Economic and Trade Office Taiwan,
Taiwanese’s students, Indonesian’s students, International students and also some Professor of
NCU. Even though the majority of participants citizenship are Taiwan, but the international
students are quite varied, such as from Vietnam, China, Mongolia, Malaysia, India, Hongkong,
Thailand and Germany. Total participants was more than 500 people, an increase people
compared to last year event.
There are two parts of ICD 2016, Exhibition and Parade on the first day and Performance on
the second day. The exhibition at SAC Building was opened at 05.00 P.M. on March, 8th 2017.
The committee active ask the participants to join in some Indonesian traditional games such
as eating crackers game, marbles race, angklung game, put a nail into the bottle. Some of

them looked had fun with the game and also enjoyed Indonesian food. During the exhibition
session, the participants were surprised by gamelan performance and saman dance inside
the building. In the second day, the performances at Grand Lecture Hall was opened from
05.00 P.M. on March, 9th 2017. The participants were lined up enthusiastically in registration
desk and followed the event which was started with choir performances and was opened by
the leader of KDEI and OIA to hit the gong. Then entered the drama and traditional dances
such as Merak (Peacock) Dance, Kipas Dance, Balinese Kecak Dance, Tor-Tor Dance, War
Dance Kalimantan, and Sing ‘Pengyou Song’ performance.
Based on the results of questionnaires distributed to participants, drama and dance are the
most impressive program. In addition, they feel that Indonesian students are friendly the event
was interesting and impressive. Overall, they consider NCU ICD 2017 as excellent event and
more than 95% said they wanted to come in the next ICD.
