NOTES ON Site wide design parameter justification will be provided in the Geotechnical Interpretation Report.
PARAMETER
The superficial deposits have been ignored due to limited thickness.
JUSTIFICATION
Design values for rock are based on results from interpreted Point Load Testing and direct UCS test-
ing. For moderately weathered, slightly weathered and fresh basalt only direct UCS values are used.
*UCS values have been limited to the limiting values shown in Table 2.13 of the GIR Phase I (Ref.
MTHL-PKG2-DS-GEN-G-00-002).
†where no SPT N or UCS values are available, or UCS value is deemed unreliable, the value has
been taken as lower bound 95% confidence limit shown in Table 2.13 of the GIR.
‡RQD = Nil therefore Highly Weathered SPT N limited to N = 125 used for design (Method 2)
LIQUEFACTION ASSESSMENT
Marine Clay No No No No
PILED FOUNDATIONS
The majority of the pile capacity is from the piles end bearing into moderately weathered, slightly
weathered and fresh basalt. The design includes some shaft resistance from the highly weathered,
moderately weathered and slightly weathered basalt. Shaft resistance within the marine clay and
granular material has been ignored.
CRITERIA FOR Pile toe level based within the moderately weathered to fresh basalt.
SELECTING PILE TOE
Minimum socket length 0.3 metres in hard rock, and 0.5 x diameter of the pile in weathered rock.
LEVEL
Adequately support the axial loads analysed from the Sofistik model.
ALLOWANCE FOR The structural design of the pile has made allowance for lateral loading of the pile.
LATERAL LOADING
ALLOWANCE FOR Maximum 6.56 metres has been considered as per the Scour report (Ref. MTHL-RAM-DWTPL-TR-
SCOUR DES-0129), however the superficial deposits have been ignored in lateral and vertical pile capacity
calculations.

NOTES ON Site wide design parameter justification will be provided in the Geotechnical Interpretation Report.
PARAMETER
The stiff clay and granular material has been ignored due to limited thickness.
JUSTIFICATION
Design values for rock are based on results from interpreted Point Load Testing and direct UCS
testing. For moderately weathered, slightly weathered and fresh basalt only direct UCS values are
used.
The majority of the pile capacity is from the piles end bearing into moderately weathered and
slightly weathered basalt. The design includes some shaft resistance from the highly weathered,
moderately weathered and slightly weathered basalt. Shaft resistance within the marine clay and
granular material has been ignored.
CRITERIA FOR Pile toe level based within the moderately weathered to slightly weathered basalt.
