 Rhetorical Analysis Essay

Persuasive writing and speaking can advance the progress

of equality and social justice by starting a movement that then
starts the progress of social justice leading to equality. In King’s
letter “LFBJ” his purpose was to portray nonviolence resistance
to racism , in “U.N youth Assembly” Malala purpose was to
persuade people to use education as a weapon and to use their
knowledge to the best of their applities and in “A Genetics of
Justice” Alvarez purpose was to speak up about justice and to
come to an end of dictatorship. Malala uses pathos throughout
her writing to make her speech more persuasive to connect to
the audience. King also uses pathos in his text to give the
reader a better understanding and a connection to his
emotions on the subject. Alvarez uses Logos throughout the
text to explain what personally happened to her to make her
audience believe and understand her argument. Malala speech
does the best job using Rhetoric by using pathos throughout
her argument.
Martin luther King jr throughout his letter uses pathos to show
and prove to his audience that his purpose in his letter is
important and needs to be heard. In the text it says “ I hope the
church as a whole will meet the challenge of this decisive hour.
But even if the church does not come to the aid of justice, i have
no despair about the future. I have no fear about the outcome
of our struggle in birmingham, even if our motives are presently
misunderstood” (King 11) this shows how king advance his
purpose of nonviolence resistance to racism “we will reach the
goal of freedom in Birmingham and all over the nation, because
the goal of america is freedom” (King 11) King uses pathos to
show how he wants a change but he isn’t rushing it he wants
everything to with no violence connecting back to his purpose.
Malala uses rhetoric throughout her speech to advance
her purpose to her audience. In the text malala says “ we are
really tired of these wars. Women and children are suffering in
many parts of the world” (malala 2)this shows how malala uses
pathos to persuade the audience to prove her purpose that the
wars are really affecting the world causing suffering “ in india,
innocent and poor children are victims of child labor. Many
schools have been destroyed in Nigeria” (malala 2) Malala uses
pathos in her speech to prove her purpose of encouragement
to children and women.
Alvarez uses rhetoric in her text to explain the events she
went through that helped her prove her purpose of her speech.
n the text it says “The parade went on for hours in the hot sun until my mother
was sure she was going to faint. Her feet were swollen and hurting” (Alvarez 3)
this shows how Alvares uses pathos to persuade her audience “My mother was
now doubly revolted by this cold-monster, he became something of an obsession
with her-living as she was by then in exile with my father” (Alvarez 2). Alvarez
uses rhetoric throughout the text by using both Pathos and
Logos to explain how dictatorship impacted her mother after
she sat at the parade for hours in the hot sun.
To summarize all the texts used in this essay uses persuading
to advance their purpose with the help of rhetorical using
pathos, ethos and logos to help prove their purpose in their
speech/ text. I believe Malala uses the best examples of rhetoric
because she uses pathos all throughout her speech to prove
her purpose. All of the authors are successful with their
speeches and letters because they are proving their purpose by
using writing and speaking skills that are rhetorical. King uses
pathos to show how equality is important among everyone, and
Malala uses pathos to show how she believes having education
is important.
