The country of Japan has always fascinated us. It all started with a love for anime, the
Japanese form of animation. We’ve learned a lot about their language, their culture traditions
and their technology. Now, we think it is the perfect time for us to learn its history. When we
started interest in anime, we found out the majority of it was based from Japanese manga, a
traditional form of story-telling through comics. Most of the early work of manga artists were
influenced by politics and war so we looked back in their history and found out what we
believe is its most significant influence.
We started our research on the internet but eventually we went to the Feleti Barstow
Public Library , searched in history books, encyclopedias and other reference books. We
found the books we could borrow some books take home and look into them at our own pace.
When we compared all the information we found, we didn’t have much to go on except for a
few illustrations and accounts of witnesses. The early 1900’s didn’t have much to tell by way
of pictures, compared to later dates in world history.
With the information we have, we decided to go with Website category because we
feel this project should be shared with a wider audience even though there is not a lot of
sources written about it, much less photos or illustrations about what really happened at the
time. We relied heavily on the accuracy of our sources especially on the internet, where a host
of authors and writers have different opinions, which is really easily done nowadays. It is easy
to start a debate where Pro-Russian and Pro-Japanese views are discussed and decided upon
without a clear winner. With this paper, we will attempt to set it straight forward so it would
be easily understood.
The Russo-Japanese War tells the story of a rising empire in Asia and its desire to be
recognized as a superpower nation. The birth of this idea started with this event and Japan’s
triumph was just the beginning of a series of successful campaigns of the empire to expand its
reach in Asia and the Pacific. The event would start the evolution of future wars and how it is
conducted, but at the same time, it meant more tragedy of lost lives and wasted resources for
the countries involved.
