STUDENT INFORMATION SYSTEM

SYNOPSIS
This project is entitled as “Student Information System” is developed using
“VB.NET” as the Front-End and MS-Access as the Back-End.
The objective of this application is to know student details of a university or college
to communicate with each other. This allows students to know about each other and their
current activities. Many institutions, colleges and universities maintain the information
manually about students. This does not allow efficient data management and retrieval
process.
This application allows registering the student information such as register no, naming
and other details and then search the data based on different criteria. Also it has the benefit
of having a centralized database and up to date information. A staff can easily obtain
information about student details and their marks.
All the record manipulation can be done accurately and displayed in the screen
immediately that helps the user to make the data entry very accurately.

 1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 OVERVIEW OF THE PROJECT

The project “STUDENT INFORMATION SYSTEM” is involving the information

about the students.
This allows students to know about each other and their current activities. Many
institutions, colleges and universities maintain the information manually about students.

The objectives of the project is,
 To reduce the manual work for maintaining student details.
 This project is used to maintain the student data’s accurately.
 To Store and retrieve the detail of student and staff easily.
 To Maintain and process details about studies, academics and collections are easily.
 To update the student records whenever need.

2. SYSTEM STUDY
System analysis is a process of gathering and interpreting facts, diagnosing problems
and the information to recommend improvements on the system. It is a problem solving
activity that requires intensive communication between the system users and system
developers. System analysis or study is an important phase of any system development
process. System analysis is concerned with becoming aware of the problem, identifying the
relevant and decisional variables, analyzing and synthesizing the various factors and
determining an optimal or at least a satisfactory solution or program of action.

2.1 EXISTING SYSTEM

In the existing system the transactions are done only manually through registers.
Since all the details have to be maintain to manage a Student Information System each and
every records like student detail, staff detail, academic detail have to be maintained. In the
existing though making entries is easy but recollecting information about amount paid or due
details is a tough task. Hence a new system has to be developed to maintain all the data.

2.1.1 DRAWBACKS OF EXISTING SYSTEM

 Lack of security of data.
 Time consuming.
 Consumes large volume of paper work.
 Needs manual calculations.
 Less accuracy.
To avoid all these limitations and make the working more accurately the system needs
to be computerized.

2.2 PROPOSED SYSTEM

The aim of proposed system is to develop a system of improved facilities. The
proposed system can overcome all the limitations of the existing system. The system provides
proper security and reduces the manual work. The new system can maintain all the data easily
like student details, staff details, academic detailsetc,.Retrieval of any information from the
system is very quick and easy process.
2.2.1 FUTURES OF PROPOSED SYSTEM
The system is very simple in design and to implement. The system requires very low
system resources and the system will work in almost all configurations. It has got following
features
 Security of data.
 Ensure data accuracy.
 Proper control of the higher officials.
 Minimum time needed for the various processing.
 Greater efficiency.
 User friendliness and interactive.
 Minimum time required.

3. MODULE DESCRIPTION
1. Administrator Module:
This Module only access by the administrator. It contains the information such as
login id and the password. The administrator login to the student information system
access the data and view, search the details. He/she have the permission to add/ delete
the student details. Because the students that are discontinued students information
will be deleted.

 Add student information

 Modify Student information
 Delete Student Information

2. Student Module:
This Module consist of the details like student register no, student name, roll no ,
student photo, address, age, gender, major, date of joining, academic year of study,
attendance per semester, period of study, semester details, mark list of the completed
semesters, extra-curricular activities, percentage up to completed semester.
3. Search Module:
This module is used to search the all detailed informations about the particular student
using the roll no. Search module is used for easy maintanence of student informations.
4. Report Module:
Report Module is to show or view the student informations. This Module is to
maintain the particular student details and also all the student details in the class
room.
