This Knowledge Base Article, NK-1000-0093, provides a procedure to recover DeltaV Continuous Historian data from an
existing historian database to a different machine. This recovery procedure will make the old historian’s datasets available
for backup and export. Recovered datasets can be used as a backup to backfill missing data or simply to view older
historical data.
Machine requirements:
The machine where the DeltaV Continuous Historian Data will be recovered should satisfy the following conditions:
IMPORTANT We highly recommend that you contact your Local Emerson Process Management
Representative to request assistance in performing the procedure described in this KBA.
1. Ensure that the Continuous Historian is running and working. Confirm using the DeltaV Continuous Historian
Administration Tool that the Active and current datasets are displayed. Overall integrity of the Continuous
Historian subsystem in DeltaV Diagnostics should also be ‘GOOD’
2. Disable the Continuous Historian.
3. Download the Continuous Historian.
4. Stop the DeltaV service. If an SI Dongle is used, remove the SI Dongle.
5. Rename the existing DeltaV Continuous Historian database directory (e.g., from D:\DeltaVHistory to
‘D:\DeltaVHistory-old’).
6. Copy the DeltaVHistory folder to be recovered and paste it as the new D: \DeltaVHistory folder.
7. Open a command prompt window and run the following Objectivity command to register the new database for
use:
ooinstallfd -nocheck -standalone -lockserverhost <COMPUTERNAME> D:\DeltaVHistory\DvCHdb.hdb
Note The DeltaVHistory Folder should contain ALL the datasets shown in DeltaV Continuous Historian
Administration’s Primary Storage. Otherwise, warning messages similar to the one shown below will be
generated when registering the Historian files and the Historian Data restoration will not be restored
successfully:
WARNING: unable to locate Database File
"<Machine>:D:\DeltaVHistory\DeltaV_<Machine>__200907080000.DvCHdb.DB". WARNING: unable to
locate Database File
"<Machine>:D:\DeltaVHistory\DeltaV_<Machine>__200907080000.DvCHdb.DB".
8. Set the workstation date and time to that of the end time of the last (most recent) dataset on the DeltaVHistory
folder. You may check it from the modified date.
