Victoria University
A New School Of Thought

Victoria University (VU), based in Melbourne, Australia, is a forward-thinking

institution with fresh ideas stemming from more than 90 years of teaching
experience. It is a progressive university where challenging conventional thinking
is not just encouraged – it is expected.
VU is a leader in industry-based learning. It is an institution that understands the
importance of applying knowledge gained in the classroom to real world situations.
This means when VU students graduate, they do not just have knowledge – they
also know how to use it.
VU has 11 campuses, 47,000 students and 3,000 staff. Three of its campuses are
located in Melbourne’s Central Business District.
VU is an international university with over 7,500 international students. It is the
University of Choice for students from over 100 countries. According to Hobson’s
2007 Good Universities Guide, students have given VU a five-star rating for cultural
diversity.
VU has the best student-to-teacher ratio in the state according to the Australian
Vice-Chancellors’ Committee Report 2005. Both the 2005 and 2006 Good
Universities Guide report that VU graduates gave VU the maximum 5-star rating for
their educational experience.
A Focus on
Personal Attributes
and Professional Skills
The VU Bachelor of Business is offered by the Faculty
of Business and Law which is one of Australia’s largest
business faculties. It offers business students a unique
combination of academic and practical learning
experience.
It incorporates a Business Learning Experience Project which comprises three Professional
Development units of study spanning over three years. These Professional Development units utilise
an interactive team-based approach to learning and teaching.

The new Bachelor of Business degree provides business students a learning experience that adds
value beyond the discipline and technical knowledge by cultivating and developing professional
and personal attributes highly valued by employers.

Sunway University College is an elite Tier 5 member in the 2009 MQA Rating System for Malaysian
Higher Education Institutions (SETARA’09) that measures quality of teaching and learning at
the undergraduate level in universities and universities colleges in Malaysia. It is another way of
recognising our excellent academics and graduates.
Why Study At
VU-Sunway?

• Established Track Record

The VU Bachelor of Business degree was first offered at Sunway in 1994 as a ‘1+2’ programme. Since
1999, students were able to complete the entire VU degree in Sunway under the ‘3+0’ programme. For
the past 15 years, many local and international students have completed their degree at VU-Sunway and
have established promising careers in Malaysia and other parts of the world.

• Local and International Accreditation

The VU Bachelor of Business degree at Sunway is approved by the Ministry of Higher Education
(MOHE) and fully accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). The degree is also
recognised by the Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam (JPA). The VU programme at Sunway was audited
by the Australian Universities Quality Agency (AUQA) and was commended for delivering a ‘high
quality international partnership and offshore teaching’. The VU Bachelor of Business in Accounting
is recognised by professional bodies such as CPA Australia and the Association of Chartered Certified
Accountants (ACCA).

• Business Learning Experience Project

The VU Bachelor of Business curriculum is unique as it focuses on the development of students’
personal attributes and professional skills that are required by the business community. The
curriculum comprises a Business Learning Experience Project that requires students to undertake
three compulsory Professional Development Support units over three years that would complement
the specialist area of study. These units are taught using a technology intensive learner-centred
collaborative learning model.

• Learning in the Workplace

To complement the Business Learning Experience Project, students are encouraged to undertake
their learning in the workplace through internships with business and other organisations. Sunway
facilitates the placement of second and third year students into internship programmes with the ‘Big
4’ accounting firms and other corporations.

• Excellent Graduate Outcomes

As a result of the focus on the development of a student’s personal attributes and professional skills,
VU graduates are recognised for their adaptability and employability by international employers such
as KPMG, Deloitte KassimChan, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Ernst and Young, DHL and many more.
• Identical Curriculum with Australia
The curriculum delivered at VU-Sunway is identical to the one in Melbourne, Australia. The syllabi, assignments,
tests and final examinations are set by VU Australia, ensuring a true Australian university education. All tests and
examinations are conducted on the same day and at the same time as VU Australia. The academic transcripts
and certificates are issued by VU Australia.

• Australian Learning Experience

Academic staff of VU Australia regularly teach at Sunway and provide academic counselling to the students
every semester. Their visits provide assurance of the quality of the education provided at Sunway and students
will get a true Australian learning experience.

• High Achievers
VU students at the Sunway campus continuously achieve top position in many subjects in the University
examinations across all the campuses in Australia. In addition, students at Sunway consistently obtain a higher
average mark than their Australian peers. This is a testimony of the dedicated and quality teaching by lecturers
at the Sunway campus.

• Active University Life

Besides attending lectures and tutorials, students at the VU programme at Sunway are given every opportunity
to experience an active university life. The VU Business Club and the Sunway CPA Australia Student Charter are
two clubs that are run by the VU-Sunway students. These very active clubs allow the students to independently
carry out activities for their course mates and also network with the business community. The students and
academic staff of VU-Sunway also jointly publish a newsletter, the VU Voices, to highlight the many events and
activities that are held throughout the year. Representatives of the student body and senior academic staff meet
once every semester to enable students to provide feedback on the programme.

• Flexibility and Mobility

Flexibility and mobility are given to students who choose to transfer to VU in Australia at any time during their
course of study. Assistance in campus accommodation, booking of flights and other services will be provided
prior to their departure. Subject to approval, VU students in Malaysia can complete one semester in VU Australia
through the Student Exchange Programme without paying the much higher Australian tuition fee.

Students finishing their first year studies can also opt to transfer to our collaborating universities in Australia and
New Zealand upon meeting all the specific conditions, such as University of Melbourne and the University of
Western Australia in Australia and Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand.

VU-Sunway Graduates

“Having heard so much about the VU Programme at Sunway, I made up my mind to

pursue my Bachelor’s degree at Sunway-VU since Form 5. Looking back, I must say
I have had no regrets. The VU undergraduate programme not only offers a state-of-
the-art course structure but also aids students in critical thinking. Moreover, the pure
dedication and sincerity of the VU-Sunway lecturers are priceless and they are in no
comparison to any other university. I will always treasure the 3 great years I had in VU-
Sunway. I love you, VU. “

Ms. Racheal Louis Vincent, Malaysia

Bachelor of Business (International Trade)
Master of International Business (MIB), Monash University

“Four years ago, when I was preparing to travel to Malaysia to further my education, I
was not the only one anxious but my parents, too, were worried about my well-being.
However, I want to say that all things are possible when we have faith and perseverance
to press on in life. Although I have been diagnosed with Ehler’s-Danlos Syndrome from
young, a condition which has led to the weakening of my muscles, I have always wanted
to challenge the impossible things in life. With the help of my lecturers and course
mates, I have successfully completed the VU Bachelor of Business twinning programme
here at Sunway University College. Most importantly, I wish to thank the special people
in the Australian University Programme (AUP) who have taken into consideration my
condition and gone the extra mile to see to my needs and facilitate my study over the
three-year duration of the course. I promise I will never forget all of you at VU-Sunway.”

Ms. Eka Diah Gun Herwanti, Indonesia,

Bachelor of Business (Marketing/International Trade)

“Nothing can describe how wonderful and memorable VU-Sunway has been to me.
Besides offering a conducive study environment, VU-Sunway is reputed for her friendly
and helpful staff, students from different cultures around the world and lecturers who
are willing to invest time and energy to ensure their students’ success. Even though I
have left the University, I still feel I belong to one big happy family at VU-Sunway. I am
so thankful to VU-Sunway for giving me this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to continue
my studies in VU Melbourne, Australia under the Student Exchange Programme. This
priceless experience made VU-Sunway unique and unforgettable. I am now working in
PETRONAS, a company ranked among the FORTUNE Global 500 largest corporations in
the world.”

Reminisce......

“If I had not chosen to study in VU-Sunway, I would not be where I am today. During my
3 years of undergraduate study at VU-Sunway, I gained not only specialised knowledge
and professional skills but self confidence as well. I am very appreciative of all my
lecturers who are knowledgeable, kind and caring, and always willing to lend a helping
hand. Furthermore, I have made good friends for a lifetime. VU-Sunway has provided
a supportive learning environment. Acquiring knowledge is just one aspect, but the
experience of enjoying your study the unique VU way goes a long way. Discovering,
researching, learning and applying gave me much more than the knowledge acquired
from books. Without this experience at VU-Sunway, I would neither be able to attain my
full potential nor be successful in my career. VU, you are simply the BEST!”

Ms. Zou Qiang, China

“It has been some time since I graduated from VU-Sunway, yet the memories still seem
so fresh as though it has only been a few months. The undergraduate experience I had
amassed in Sunway-VU was indeed enriching. The dedicated lecturers were willing to
share their knowledge and endeavoured to bring VU-Sunway to the next level. The
extra curricular activities built the leadership qualities of students whilst the training and
workshops given sharpened the skills of the students. In addition, the diverse culture
and nationality of the student population have given me a different perspective of life
and the working world. I am indeed more inspired now and I firmly believe that VU-
Sunway should be your next destination of choice for tertiary education.”

Mr. Ang Ker Soon, Malaysia

Bachelor of Business (Marketing/International Trade)

“I have just graduated with a Master Degree in Management from Umea University in
Sweden with flying colours. I have kept the VU flag flying high because VU has given
me courage and great skills to achieve the best. I have continued the VU spirit here in
terms of hard work and extra curricular activities. My success story will not be complete
without mention of the quality leadership and coaching efforts of the faculty members
at VU-Sunway. Who I am now and what I have achieved in life, VU-Sunway indeed has a
great role to play. I miss every moment I spent back in Malaysia. I wish I could get back
those days - even for a while.”
