DO YOU HAVE A HELICOPTER PARENT?
Studies made on a group of 743 individuals at Harvard Univeristy have shown that people who
become parents after 30 have a high tendency of being helicopter parents.
Helicopter
parents
are often
described
as the
overly
concerned
type of parents. They take care of every
aspect of their children’s lives and they
overreact whenever it comes to their
children’s needs or wishes. Recent studies
shown that usually, this kind of parents are
the ones who decide to start a family right
after they have passed a decent milestone
in their career. This happens in most of
cases after thirty years old.
Harvard University analysed the
importance of having a close-by parent in
the formation of a child’s mind and
thinking. The study was made on a large
group of 743 individuals and took place in
7 different countries like: England,
Scotland, Ireland, Sweden, Turkey,
Romania and Hungary.
The outcome was an undimmed
demonstration of the fact that helicopter
parents are predominante in the generation
of parents who were born in the time
period of 1980-1990. Moreover, these kind
of parents confessed that children were
part of a tremenduous strategy right after
succeeding in the professional field.
However, they brought forward the
actuality that once with the newborn’s
arrival, they established which one will
give up their career path moving up to a
stay-at-home parent.
The culimating part of the study was in
Scotland, where a couple granted their
educational procedure: GPS tracking
devices which provide the location and

and 9 years old children’s glasses so they
know all the time that they are out of
danger. However, when asked if children
know about it, they laughed between a few
words: what would be the point of it then?
There is no way to be a perfect parent, but a
million ways to be a good one. Is helicopter
parenting the answer? Perhaps we’ll never
know.
