Fire ratings of FRL 30/30/30, FRL 60/60/60, FRL 90/90/90 and FRL 120/120/120 may be achieved with various
combinations of 1, 2 and 3 layers of Boral Firestop Plasterboard. Where illustrations throughout this
manual give the option of using either 1, 2 or 3 layers of plasterboard, refer to the table below to select the
system giving the fire and acoustic ratings required.

Ceiling Variations using 4 Layers of Plasterboard.


A fire rating of FRL 120/120/120 with a 120min. resistance to incipient spread of fire is achieved using four
layers of 16mm Boral Firestop Plasterboard - 2 bottom layers and 2 top layers separated by a secondary
furring channel framing (System CS6). For details, refer to Boral Plasterboard TecASSIST or TecSYS - a
comprehensive technical catalogue on CD-ROM (see back cover).

Quieter Ceilings
The "Quieter" ceiling system consists of two sheets of 10mm Boral Plasterboard SoundStop fixed to
underside of floor/ceiling joists with Furring Channel (Rondo P.N.129) and Boral Plasterboard Acoustic
Ceiling Mount.

• Fix Furring Channel to ceiling joists at 450mm centres.


• For joists at 450mm centres, fix ceiling mount to every third joist. For joists at 600mm centres, fix
ceiling mount to every second joist.
• Mechanically fasten first layer of Boral SoundStop to Furring Channel with screws across sheet width
at 300mm max. centres.
• Second layer is fixed to first using combination stud adhesive and mechanical fasteners. Apply stud

Quietest Ceilings
The "Quietest" ceiling system consists of two sheets of 10mm Boral Plasterboard SoundStop fixed
to underside of floor/ceiling joists with Furring Channel (Rondo P.N.129) and Boral Plasterboard
Acoustic Ceiling Mount. Two additional layers of 10mm Boral Plasterboard SoundStop are fixed to
underside of flooring with cleats, ensuring a snug fit between joists.

• Fix Furring Channel to ceiling joists at 450mm centres.
