What do you mean by Third Party Inspection?

Third Party Inspection Means putting a check on the working process in business world at every stage
from some external/not related entity which has required expertise in checking and evaluating of that
process. The external entity is called Third party, since it is neither the producer nor the buyer of the
product or services being inspected. A product or service goes through number stages before it is available
in the market for the final customers. Third Party Inspection is basically related to the task of scrutiny at
different stages of production in order to maintain the level of quality and confidence of the customer in
business.

Third Party inspection is carried by some outsourced agency having proven track record/specific skillset
for testing and ensuring the quality of product/process/services.

Third Party Inspection finally aids in winning the confidence of customers in product and maintain the
standard as per the requirement.

How Many Types of Quality Inspection are there ?

Four types of Quality Inspection are there which are as follow:-

• Pre-production : Inspection tells the buyer which kind of raw materials (or components) will be
used. Factories are often suspected of lowering their costs by purchasing substandard materials,
and this can be disastrous for the buyer
• A during production ; Inspection (often called “DUPRO” in the industry) allows the buyer to have
an idea of average product quality, early in the production cycle. It is the most useful and the
most under-rated tool at the disposal of importers, who often only rely on final inspections.
• The final random inspection (also called “pre-shipment inspection”) : Most common type of QC
check. It takes place once 100% of shipment quantity is finished so it can be a real random
inspection (this is not exactly the case if quality is checked earlier) and suppliers cannot play
games
• Loading/unloading: Inspection, like the pre-production inspection, it is seldom used. But it can be
a worthwhile option in some specific cases
• Post Shipment Inspection: The inspection is carried out once the consignment reached its
destination to Confirm and assure the condition of the goods.
Why Third party inspection is required?

Third-party is widely relied upon in many markets when

▪ There may be a higher risk associated with non-compliance

▪ There may be a higher risk from products
▪ There is need for an independent demonstration to the supply and demand chain such as
consumers, manufacturers and regulators that a product fulfills specified requirements
▪ There is need for higher levels of confidence and assurance of compliance with safety, health or
environmental requirements
▪ Manufacturers seek to reduce in-house compliance costs or apply third-party as an added value to
their own quality and conformity assessment procedures to gain global market access and protect
their brands and reputation
▪ There are limited government resources to fully fund market surveillance systems.

Global Market Trends

As a result of globalization, supply chains are becoming increasingly more complex. Outsourcing and rising
end user quality expectations have resulted in a higher demand for independent services. Businesses are
aiming to ensure that products, infrastructures and processes meet the required standards and
regulations in terms of quality, health and safety, environmental protection and social responsibility
reducing the risk of failure, accidents and disruption. Independent companies also play a key role in aiding
governments fulfill their mandate in protecting consumers against hazardous products. In the European
Union, for example, under the New Approach directives, certain product categories require assessment by
accredited independent companies.
In the United States, the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 stipulates that third-party
testing and certification of certain products is mandatory prior to being placed on the market.

Recently In Europe, Consumer Market Survey Published jointly by the International Federation of
Inspection Agencies (IFIA) and the International Confederation of Inspection and Certification
Organisations (CEOC) and the results of the market survey show that third-party certification provided
higher levels of compliance and lower levels of dangerous faults against applicable requirements when
compared to supplier declaration of conformity: self-declared products presented 17% dangerous faults,
compared to < 1 % dangerous faults for products that were third-party certified.
