Materials

1. Definition of Homeostasis
Homeostasis comes from Greece, namely, homeo which means the same and
stasis which means to maintain the situation. Homeostasis is a relatively constant
state in the internal environment of the body. All processes that occur in living
organisms to maintain the internal environment, under certain conditions to create
optimal conditions for the life of the organism concerned. Homeostasis is a
mechanism for regulating a dynamic equilibrium environment in a constant body. We
can simply say that Homeostasis is a process that takes place to maintain fluid
balance in the body of living things.
2. The Process of Homeostasis in Some Oraganism
a. Tumbuhan/Plant
Transpiration, photosynthesis and respiration are commonly known plant
metabolic processes. Transpiration can be interpreted as the process of losing
water in the form of water vapor from plant tissue through the leaf mouth
(stomata). The advantage of this process is to accelerate the rate of transport
of nutrients through the root xylem vessels, to maintain the turgidity of plant
cells so that their conditions remain optimal and as an effort to maintain leaf
temperature stability (Lakitan, 2008).
b. Paramecium
The function of contractile vacuole is to regulate the concentration of water in
the cell. The contractile vacuole works the same as the name implies, in that it
expands and contracts. The point of contractile vacuole is pumping water out
of the cell through a process called osmoregulation, regulation of osmotic
pressure.
c. Animal (Fish)
