B.P-The Batasang Pambansa (Batasan; English: National Assembly, lit. "National Legislature") was the
former parliament of the Philippines, established as an interim assembly in 1978 and later as an official
body in 1984. The Batasan was erected under the 1973 Constitution promulgated by then-

Act-Something done; usually, something done intentionally or voluntarily or with a purpose.

The term encompasses not only physical acts—such as turning on the water orpurchasing a gun—
but also refers to more intangible acts such as adopting adecree, edict, law, judgment, award, or determ
ination. An act may be a private act, done by an individual managing his or her personal affairs, or it may
be a public act, done by an official, a council, or a court. When a bill is favorably acted upon in theprocess
of legislation, it becomes an act.

Actually, all laws would have a title and numerical designation. For example, The New Civil Code is
Republic Act No. 386, and the Revised Penal Code is Act (not Republic Act) No. 3815. They have in fact
longer titles but they are more commonly known as the New Civil Code or the Revised Penal Code.

Our laws have been called either a Republic Act, Act, Commonwealth Act, Presidential Decree, or Batas
Pambansa depending on when in our history the law was passed, or more accurately, what was the
legislative body that passed it. As discussed before, Marcos, when he wielded legislative power, enacted
his Presidential Decrees. During the time of the Batasan, laws were called Batas Pambansa (such as the
very famous BP22 our "Bouncing Checks Law"). During the American time, our laws were either Acts or
Commonwealth Acts.
